OK so I actually found a way to put the GoPro mount to good use. Posted it in the "What have you done to your 3rd Gen" thread and had several members asking for more info. Made me think that there are most likely others who have actually found a use for the dang thing without buying a GoPro they never wanted in the first place. If that's the case please post them here. Ill start:

I actually use a gopro. Saved me a couple times. Guy cuts me off. I honk. He slams on his brakes and all 5 feet of him jump out. I laugh and point at the gopro. He looks at the gopro, looks at me, swears, gets back in his car and takes off. Another time, guy in front of me gets hit by a bicyclist who claims injury. Cops, fire dept. and ambulance show up. I show them the gopro footage of a guy going about 5 mph hitting the side of the truck. Everyone laughs. Guy gets back on his bicycle and leaves. So yeah, it comes in handy.

 

One for the good guys.

 

Could your attachments work with a different camera, not a GoPro or scanner..

First thing I did when I got my truck was mount a dash cam to the gopro mount. Love it there and I can remove it easy if I want to put a gopro in its place.

 

You ran the wires down the a-pillar?

 

Yeah, the hardwire kit goes down the drivers side, then the rear camera wire goes along the headliner to the rear camera.

 

I've read this and other "use the GoPro mount" threads, but I still have a question: Is there a separate piece that comes with a new Tacoma that fits that mounting spot on the windshield? I just bought my '16 used, and if there was such a piece, I didn't get it.

 

No, it would either come with a GoPro camera or you can buy it from places like Amazon.

Dual dash cam in mine.
Don’t find it stupid at all. Easy mod to readily available GoPro clamps has worked great for three years so far.

 

The trucks didn't come with anything other than what is attached to the windshield.

 

Anyone actually use the GoPro mount for a GoPro while wheeling? I did and whatever obstacle I was working on looked barely more than a pothole. All my trail “footage” is lame.

 

I use it to hang my finger puppet. One of these guys. This guy is 17 years old. He's been named Angry Greg, no clue why.

 

Gonna try this - just have to find that damn suction-cup mount that was until now dead to me.

 

I'm interested in switching from my cheap dashcam to a gopro - can you tell me what your setup is like?

 

A gopro mounted in the cab does nothing justice. When your driving fast it looks like speed limit. When your wheeling, looks like regular driving. All in the editing.

 

Is there a good thread for installing a dash cam using the GoPro mount? Id love to set one up!

Also, what would be a good dash camera to go with?
