So over the past year or two I've traveled all over the country, taking lots of pictures along the way. I'm really happy with how some of the pictures have come out, but it seems like it's a waste to not really display them. I have them set to rotate as my computer background, but that's not really displaying them.

I guess my question is, what is your favorite way to show off your photography and where do you get them from? Metal prints, canvas, traditional paper? I've never had anything done other than the regular Walgreens 1 hour special kind of stuff.

I've heard metal prints are really cool, but I've never seen one in person. They also seem pretty expensive.

Any suggestions or thoughts on this are welcome!

And since we all like pictures, here's two of my favorites.

I have mine framed and hung in the house in different formats. One is printed on canvas and framed, another is on luster paper in a frame, a few on metallic paper in a frame, and some are on metal with a float mount. I even printed a shot of part of my engine at Costco for $10 then mounted it to some foam board at Hobby Lobby for another $7 and hung that in the garage. Lots of options are available.

My portfolio consists of 16x20 board prints. I actually get them from my local Walgreens and they are surprisingly sharp and vibrant in person. These are cell phone pics of some of them. I don't frame mine as I need to carry them with me to meet with clients, etc. They sit in the big portfolio case.

Metal and wood block are by far my favorite printing surface. I've used AdoramaPix in the past with good results and have heard great things about Bay Photo, but have not used them. My local camera shop does aluminum prints in house and they come out good, you might have one as well that can do good work.

I've also printed on board, and they look good to but are a bit fragile (or I'm a bit rough with my prints, which is also likely). Most digital based printing works well on any smooth durable surface in my experience.

most of my big prints have been on metal, currently using Full Color here in Dallas, however I'm currently waiting for my first Lumachrome HD print by Nevada Art Printers for a client. Depending on how it comes out (I'm sure it'll be amazing, I've seen these in person and they are just incredible) I'm hoping to save up for the next few months and put up a couple large pieces in my home this fall.
