Looking for some recommendations for a 12V portable air compressor to air up my tires on my Tacoma. Currently I am running 265/75/16 BFG KO2's tires and running 40 PSI on the street.

    Thanks

    Roger

I've had some cheap ones in the past that didn't last long. A few years ago I bought one of the better compact versions from Walmart. I paid about $50 then. Looking at their website I cannot find the one I bought listed anymore. But it has worked very well for me on multiple occasions. I was able to air up some trailer tires to 50PSI once when I found myself unexpectedly having to haul a very heavy load. I ended up buying 2 more, one for each vehicle and have no complaints. I'd think most any of them in that price range would be a OK.

Whatever one you get make sure it has clamps to connect directly to the battery post.

The one's that plug into a cigarette lighter or power point do not work nearly as well and may blow a fuse when under a load.

A viar 88p can be had for about 55 - 65 bucks if you look around. They are solid. I have had one if the older versions for 3 years or so now and it has worked great.

First one I ever had was the last. Tried to pull the plug outta the cig. lighter & almost melted my fingers. Battery clamp on with fuse is the only safe way to go.

I bought this DeWalt portable at Home Depot on sale $75. It's awesome. It came with a battery but already had other tools so and has 12v as back up. I use it on all my tires & trailers. One of my best purchases.
