Wondering if changing gear ratios will eliminate the rear diff whine? Anyone have any experience with this?

It’s NVH, not gear ratio related. Not likely going to change anything

Anyone know if the rear diff howl is rhythmic?
Trying to rule out a bad wheel bearing and needle bearing going bad

Wheel bearing is going to sound more like a growl, diff noise has higher pitch typically around 50-60mph under light acceleration/deceleration.

That's what I was kind of thinking.
I'm assuming a bad pinion angle will affect the u-joints before the diff gears right?

Looks like one of the fixes for the noise is new rear body mount spacers...looks like a 1" body lift will do the trick then. Been looking for an excuse to grab another inch. Haha

The diff howl sounds like blowing over the mouth of a bottle

The noise seems to be most noticeable going down hill and turning at roughly 55mph. Does that sound familiar?

With stock gears mine made that sound around 55 is certain situations. After regearing it now occurs around 70.

A bad wheel bearing will cause vibrations and any easy diagnosis is too check the rotor temp. A bad wheel bearing will heat up the rotors pretty badly.

The needle bearing will also vibrate and can be diagnosed with 4wd.

Seems like the noise is still present in 4wd so I've been leaning towards it not being the bearing. And yes I've pretty much ruled out wheel bearings because while the front is jacked up I have zero play in either wheels and no grinding while rotating.
