My Double cab developed a tranny issue, the truck has 86k and it was sitting about a week when it suddenly would not shift out of first. If you ease off the gas when the revs get high it goes into what feels like a neutral, where revs do not produce any forward movement, once it slows down it gets into first again and drives normal. it has not error codes. I checked the fluid level which was fine. I had planned to drop the pan and change the tranny fluid and filter so I did that on the off chance it was part of the issue, it did not help. I did check the solenoids while I had the pan off, two clicked fine while one did not. I am thinking I have a bad 1-2 shift servo. The pan and magnets did not have any metal parts, it was a little sludgey looking, a dark cherry color. Anyone deal with this kind of thing before? I plan on picking up a servo and doing a compressed air test on all the servos. I am thinking a serov that clicks but does not seal completely might not throw a code but would cause a shifting issue.

Well shit, I fixed it. I used an old life lesson and I wish it occurred to me sooner. Reading up on the tranny and how it works it is linked to the throttle position. The old life lesson was what did you change before this happened, even if it seems completely unrelated. Well that reading reminded me that I replaced the TPS and it was an Ebay sensor, although marked new and came in an oem box it did not have the SN and other things stamped on it like what every other part has, also was in a small ziplock bag so I was suspicious it was chinese in a real toyota box. The truck did not throw any codes and it ran fine but since I replaced it I didn't drive far. I put the old TPS back and it shifts fine now. I'll be ordering another TPS but from a Toyota dealer! I hope this post saves someone the trouble, I was heading down a rather expensive bunny hole.

Can you post a picture of the counterfeit TPS along side the actual OEM? I suspect the counterfeit does not have the testing lot number.

I'm trying to compile a series of pictures of counterfeit vs.actual OEM parts. Its usually easy to spot the difference.

Here's a post on this below.
