The way to spot counterfeit Denso or Aisam parts is the counterfeits or production units from a batch that did not pass the quality control process, is the suspect will not have the testing lot number.

Here's a genuine MAF with the testing lot number underlined in red.

    Here's a counterfeit injector below.

    upload_2019-8-28_5-36-0.jpg

Here's a injector with the authentic testing lot number. Notice there are other subtle differences in the injector body between the counterfeit and actual unit.

We all like to get a good deal wherever we can, just be on the lookout for the telltale signs of counterfeits.

I always like to keep a spare MAF available for those unexpected events when you need one.

So I bought one of the eBay Toyota OEM models in the $20 range and took out my clean & perfectly good working MAF and put it in a plastic bag for safe keeping. So far the new MAF is working perfectly to the point of me not wanting to touch it. If it fails, I can revert back to the last known working version. Whether I purchase a used MAF from a junkyard for $35 or snag a deal on a new OEM from online, I always keep a known working spare.

goddamn....I knew they were expensive but not that expensive (through the dealer). I usually see them for about $200 on other sites.

It would be nice to figure out what the secret sauce is that makes these denso sensors so perfect. They aren't that complicated. If we could figure out how to tweak sensors from the less sketchy sources, that would be sweet.

Toyota owns about 25% of Denso from what I've read, I think it just has to do with the fact that our ECUs are programmed to work within the exact specs of Denso sensors. I would hazard a guess that aftermarket brands just aren't always within those precise parameters. Especially the cheap knockoffs that try and pass off as OEM.

I guess. It still weirds me out that you can get a "Genuine" Denso sensor for $25 on ebay, but none of the ~$50 aftermarket sensors from reputable place like rockauto are any good.

Whatever we do, don't tell the ebay people.

It's the same way with Nissan. Only MAFs from the ECU manufacturer work properly. Otherwise it's a miserable ride.

I have an urge to pick up a few on ebay and dissect them. For science.

Do you have a hot air intake sucking in hotter air from the engine bay? And even with the original intake the air near the concrete/asphalt can get hot in the sun and from exhaust from other cars, so it might not be too unusual to see a variation of intake temperatures. You could hold a thermometer at the opening of the air intake and compare to what the scanner reads.

That’s just it, the Japanese engineers didn’t want to use a bunch of overcomplicated/sensitive stuff. Denso is inexpensive and widely available so they designed the engine control system around them. Keep it simple.

No. This thing is bouncing from 88-120 driving down shady roads at 45 mph. I am convinced it’s screwed up.

For anyone who cares, after researching what the AIT does for Toyota, it seems it is the primary determining factor in timing, and.... tranny shift points. This makes perfect sense, I get pinging, it shifts too early and I noticed today that at 35 mph the timing advanced to nearly 30 degrees. Once I get my sensor I will report back.

Me too. Unfortunately the meatheads at the EBay store sent me this, which of course doesn’t fit. Funny, cuz the listing says it does... these idiots probably list it compatible with the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine too. Guess I’m going to the junkyard... 8E6F9A28-7661-44DD-9810-57F3395420FB.jpgC88276FA-EDCA-4AE0-9746-3057E3DE623D.jpg
