    Hi all:

Just joined the group. Planning to buy a 2019 cement off road with 6 foot bed tomorrow. Should I consider buying the tonneau from Toyota or go aftermarket?

    Thanks!

I have the same question. Not prepared to purchase truck tomorrow per se.. But when I do make a purchase I'll want to know this recommendation.

    Factory tonneau is pretty decent

I would insist dealership includes the tonneau cover as part of the deal. If not walk. Call their bluff. Worst case purchase at cost.

If it's not already on there , then go aftermarket

I've had a factory tonneau on my 17 and MX4 Bakflip on my 19, the aftermarket Bakflip was far superior in fit/finish and function and cheaper/similarly priced. I'd skip the factory option and go aftermarket.

    Factory:
    - its factory, that matters to some people I guess
    - its a bit more sturdy material / resistant to hail than most aftermarket options
    - it leaks
    - its heavy
    - the design sucks, bed rail cuts, no method to prop it up

    Aftermarket:
    - better look, sits flush with bed rails instead of on top
    - lighter weight
    - dosent cut your bed rails
    - leaks less in my experience than OEM
    - more function

I say don't buy sh@t from the dealership, it's almost all marked up about 40% higher than you can order it online. Yes, you can order OEM stuff, try a Google search.
You could always tell them at the last minute that you're almost ready to sign and it would be a lot easier if you had a free tonneau..

I would go aftermarket, cheaper and probably better quality. However, if you want OEM, have it installed by Toyota. There are lots of parts to the OEM ones.

Oh, hang around here for a bit and someone will be getting rid of one.

I had it on my 3rd gen from the dealership. It’s very sturdy, secure (locks in place until you drop the tail), flips open to two positions and locks in place via a strap in the last position, easily removable if you need to take it off. It’s very well built.

It went through many rain storms and car washes and never leaked !

Only reason I sold it was to put a bed rack in the near future.

I wanted a tonneau when I bought the truck and I ended up with an Extang Solid Fold 2.0 similar to the OEM. I like both. Also get a bed mat to prevent stuff from sliding around.

Factory. Look at the aftermarkets one, looking at them from the tailgate view they never sit square to the bed. Look at some and see. I love the factory cover, fit and finish is great.

Thats just crappy install. My MX4 looked 100 times better than my OEM, flush with the bed rails not sitting on top and not that crappy plastic that fades. Just my 2 cents as someone who's had both.

Side note: any parts installed as part of the deal gain the 3 year warranty as part of the truck.

When I purchased my 18' I thought I could just go purchase a factory cover from Toyota. Nope can't it only comes from the factory when the truck is ordered. I ended up with a Diamondback SE cover its very nice, but I don't think it's as portable as say the MX4 style or the extang type .

I have factory on my limited and will not get it again. I will go aftermarket from now on. The factory cover is decent but doesn’t compare to aftermarket

I went with aftermarket since I wasn’t a big fan of these pins on the factory one. Not my picture btw.. it’s one that I found on google
