Most cats are lactose intolerant. It can cause diarrhea and discomfort.

That iconic image of the cat drinking from the milk bowl is misleading

The girls are currently eating Blue Buffalo Wilderness Duck and Blue Buffalo Freedom Fish, Peas and Potatos rotated every other meal. First time feeding the Freedom formula. They both love it.

Have you guys tried that cat mousse? Sometimes people call it "cat yogurt"...though it's not actually yogurt.

We've given it to Juno a couple of times. It's pretty cute. Just hold her like a baby and squeeze it out. This one is salmon flavor. Of course, Helena will have nothing to do with it.

We learned this lesson years ago when we had a cat with irritable bowel disorder. We took the milk away and she got better almost overnight. We switched her to Cat-Sip, and now keep it around all the time for treats or to help keep sick or elderly kitties hydrated and add some calories.

    cat-sip.jpg

"Cat-Sip is made from Grade A low-fat milk that’s 99% lactose-free, making it easier to digest for cats and kittens. Unlike solid treats, it also helps provide the added hydration they need.

    99% lactose-free.
    Lactase enzyme breaks down lactose.
Contains taurine — an essential nutrient for cat eye and heart health.
    Helps keep cats hydrated.
A wholesome snack cats and kittens will enjoy every day."

Helena eats 4 dry meals a day. She won't touch anything wet. She will occasionally eat some turkey or ham.

Juno will eat anything. She typically gets 3 dry meals during the day and a wet meal at night. She adores the Blue Buffalo Wilderness wet line.

    These are her favorites.

    64024_420.jpg 71m-QW+vEkL._SX466_.jpg 71jPQluvrhL._SL1245_.jpg 61pyOu4IpeL._SX466_.jpg images.jpeg-1.jpg

We also occasionally replace a meal for her with cooked meat...if we have a meal with beef, chicken or turkey, we'll cook a small portion for her with no seasoning or additional ingredients. Helena will sometimes eat it as well...though not often.

It's a little more work than just leaving a bowl of the same old dry food out all the time. But eating 4 small meals a day varying it each time is something they seem to look forward too.

We’re actually pretty lucky. Otis only eats when he’s hungry so we can leave the bowl full all day. At dinner he starts getting whiny and comes around to cry, usually have to tell him that he still has 30 min. We got the wet to supplement keeping him hydrated.

He won’t drink “nonflowing” water. Had to get him a fountain bowl. He also jumps up and scratches at the bathroom sink so we’ll turn it on for him to drink. The only exception is a small condiment bowl in the bedroom. He apparently thinks bottled water is a special treat and try’s to force his way in when we drink. So we fill his bedroom bowl with that. He will run from wherever he is if he hears the plastic bottle crinkle.

Unfortunately Helena was a "scarf-and-barf" kitten. So we had to break up her meals. When Juno came along we just conditioned her right into the system.

Thankfully they'll both drink static water. But only drinking flowing water is very common in cats

Yeah we heard that too. He was a rescue and almost a year old so we got him out of fear no one else would. Was a little dehydrated so just kind of catered to him telling us when and what he wanted to drink.

Great cat though. Nosiest cat I’ve ever had or seen. I can throw a treat or put down a grocery bag, he will stick his head in the bag first every time. Comes running up to explore and sniff new people, he’s a nut.

i give our outside cat milk. Shes healthy and doesnt seem to have any ill effects. She eats chipmunks, gophers, mice etc so prob has a tougher stomach. She killed a flying squirrel the other day...didnt eat it though.
