After at least 6 months and countless bad experiences and lies from my local dealerships I decided to widen my search. I figured a tank of gas was doable for a day trip if the right deal came along. Today was the day and I got a call back from a random sales guy and he had the truck I wanted for the right price. The family wanted me to get a 4 runner but I couldn't do it .Ever stuff a bloody deer in the back of your SUV with some muddy hunting boots.
Long story short I'm driving 2 states away and I'm getting my truck exactly how I wanted at better then the price I wanted to pay. This will be my 3rd Taco and I couldn't imagine having any other vehicle , it fits my needs perfectly and this community is so great.I couldn't imagine any other truck or any other forum.

Good deal, truck’s a large and long term purchase better to drive a bit for a day than get a bad deal or the wrong truck for years.

Question though? Why not keep the 16? Maybe I’m a curmudgeon but I can’t see ever giving up my 2017, all the new ones have all that radar and lane sensing stuff... admittedly though my truck is 100% my adventure vehicle if it was a DD I might feel different. I just don’t care for all that stuff on a lifted Offroad truck.

It's crazy , my 16 Is a Black 16 TRD OR dual cab with premium and tech.my new truck is a 19 Black TRDOR dual cab with premium and tech. Exactly the same truck except new one has a power rear slider and leather . They called tonight and said they needed to make there August numbers . They threw out an amazing deal, I said I'll sleep on it. Guy texted right back well take another grand off. I said If you let me keep my OEM hard tonnaue cover from the 16 you have a deal. They said no way, I said no thanks, they said ok when can you be here.
Long story short 8t was a huge hassle but the deal of a lifetime dropped in my lap because today was the last day of the sale month.Dont be afraid to widen your search and do a little driving, theres someone out there that wants to make that deal even if your local dealerships dont as in my case .

I couldn't turn the deal down, let's just say these Tacomas hold crazy value and the deal they offered for mine was too good to be true to be honest. I couldn't turn it down. I made them send me the purchase order because I couldn't believe it. 3 and a half years newer and almost same price , new warranty again. Etc Number 1 resale on planet Earth.

@FFBlack Congrats! I’ve made my best deals by widening my search outside dealerships in my current city. The farthest I’ve driven has been just over two hours to purchase. I also intended to trade my Tacoma for another 2019 Tacoma on August 31st, but the dealership supposedly misquoted my trade-in value by accident. I walked away and purchased at another dealer on September 3rd.

is that an ongoing problem, because my 19 sport has been sitting at dealer for 2 weeks waiting on a backordered fuel pump

I bought my truck the last day of November, apparently the last day of their year for factory numbers, they told me the where two sales short of their quota. They had me and another couple in the sales booths, basically buying our vehicles for what we paid for them, and I got $12 thousand off the sticker price. Timing your purchase can have a huge effect.
You did great, waited for the same situation to present itself, and got exactly what you wanted, excellent.

Wow! $12,000 discount! Agreed. Timing can have a significant impact. It just takes patience—something I wrestle with.

It was a 6 month wait , countless hassles of driving to differnt dealerships or playing the phone email game. I'd definitely say August is the best time to buy because the 2020s are coming in and there steeply discounting the 2019s. In the end it was a lot of frustration but I refused to settle for anything other than what I wanted. Pretty much same thing happened to me, the dealer was a few shy of hitting his sales goals numbers and the main manager kept dropping money off the truck untill i said I'll take it. I also said I wanted to keep my factory tonnaue from my 16 to swap to the 19 and he said he couldn't do that. I said ok thanks anyways. He said ok take the cover let's make this deal. First time ever I've been in the right place at the right time.

I hope they actually honored what they were selling you and promising you on the phone. My experience is that you get there and the deal magically changes - every time. Salesman and dealerships are slime balls.
