    HI,
I have a 2017 Tacoma 4X4 and last week the battery went bad. Before I took the Truck to the dealer to have it replaced under warranty I checked the battery terminals and cables. Why the cable to the positive side of the battery was fine the ground battery post & cable needed a bit of cleaning which I did. At the same time I decide to remove the ground cable that goes from the battery to the body panel right next to the battery to clean it. When I removed the cable I noticed that while the cable end was a unpainted metal the area where it connected to the truck body was painted, also the bolt and nut threads looked painted. To me finding the body and parts painted would now allow for a good grounding to the truck body. I ground off the paint on the body where the ground battery cable ends mounts and bolted the cable back on then spread a clean paint that seal the unpainted metal.

Has anyone else had a battery problem or notice this issue on the newer Tacoma's?

If the painted surface was an issue, you would have had problems by now. The bolt threads provide a ground.

Thanks for the reply, I just feel it was a problem causing the battery to die only after two years.
