has anybody thought of adding an air deflector to help with drag while towing? I was wondering what kind to get or what to build myself. I feel like a lot of the brands out there are designed for full size trucks and not a whole lot of people think about mid size towing.

The air deflector is going to create as much drag as the trailer, if not more

A lot of drag comes from the turbulence you’re also towing. See if there’s anything you can do to redirect airflow behind the trailer.

If your trailer sits at least a couple of feet higher than your truck roof & if you have a cap/shell on the bed then an air deflector on top of your cap at the back should help some.

As mentioned above addressing the drag behind the trailer will also help. The semi's that have the partially folding deflectors on the back of their trailers save about 4% on fuel. Those with the skirts on the bottom of their trailers save about 6% (for just the bottom skirts).
