My AC in my 2005 tacoma stopped working (whole other issue to worry about at another time) and we were looking at the fuse boxes next to the steering wheel and drivers side under the hood. Went to go start my truck and it would turn over perfectly, then 2-3 seconds later it would shut off by itself. I've read about security issues (with keys) and clearing out the MAF sensors. Any ideas or anyone else have this issue? I've recently had issues with the key locks not reacting when pressing lock/unlock so maybe the fob needs changed? not sure but any advice is greatly appreciated.

Do you have a spare key?
If so, try it. Maybe the transponder in the key is not working?

The fobs have nothing to do with starting, they just lock and unlock doors.
    Sounds like an immobilizer issue...

I would highly suggest you clean and tightened your battery cables and try again. If that doesn't work, take the battery to the auto parts store to have them load test it. Do this before assuming it's a faulty immobilizer.

Does the light above the ac controls go out when you insert the key? If so, the immobilizer is working as it should.
The remote has nothing to do with the immobilizer that I know of.
A shot in the dark here.... But maybe the fuel pump resistor? I don't know how that circuit is wired so I can't say for sure. It does make sense to me though that because the ECU controls the fuel pump speed, the pump would run full speed to start. Then the ECU would slow the pump down because you're not putting a load on the engine.
Like i said, a shot in the dark.

thank you all for your replies!

Had a friend come over and we thought the fuel pump was going bad due to us blowing air in the tank and the truck would continue running. After we installed a new one, truck started and ran for about 7 seconds before shutting off.

We then took it to accurate auto and they diagnosed it with issues with the peddle sensor and a sensor that was Buzzing near the MAF sensor.

So that’ll fix the truck starting then shutting off issue and the AC issue (which this truck has had for 10 years).

Starting up and immediately shutting off is normal behavior after the battery is disconnected. I believe it's because the computer resets itself. Is there something that is making the computer think it lost power and needs to reset itself?

Do they have coil packs on 2005?

This is my 1st gen this spring. Sounds like the exact same issues. Ended up being a coil pack that was just replaced a year ago.

I've never dealt with a faulty pedal sensor, but would first clean the Mass Air Flow Sensor(MAF). Buy the CRC product made specifically for this.
