I've been using microfiber towels when cleaning the outside of my windshield. Lately I've been noticing that they leave a pattern on the windshield after I use them. The pattern shows up when the sun is low but still shining on the windshield. The glare makes everything look like I'm seeing it through fog.

It's kinda hard to describe, but the pattern looks almost like the threads on the microfiber towel have been transferred to the glass. I only see the pattern when I look through the windshield from the inside of the cab, and when the sun is low. Very difficult to see from the outside.

In order to remove them, I have to use a terry cloth towel and rub pretty hard.

I have washed the microfiber cloths a few times so I don't think the pattern is from dirt, but it has to be from something... :notsure: Has anybody else noticed this?

Are you using the microfiber for glass? They are like big microfiber towels for cleaning eye glasses.

Also, I've see where using fabric softener in the wash will cause microfiber towels to streak glass.

The best I've found for cleaning glass are the old flower sack towels like "Grandma" would make. You can still get them at Walmart.

I haven't used any fabric softener or dryer towels for years, so I don't think that is the problem. I have washed my microfiber towels in the washing machine along with other white stuff, and used normal washer soap to clean them. I dry them with the other stuff at a low setting.

I think I'll give Walmart's flower sack towels a try. Right now I use 100% cotton diapers to dry everything.

I use microfiber for cleaning and polish/wax/sealant removal, waffle weave for drying. Stoners invisible glass for cleaning the glass. No issues like you describe.

All my car washing & detailing cloths are washed and dried in a separate load. We do not use any fabric softeners or dryer sheets in our laundry.

I also use Stoners invisible glass for cleaning glass and tinted windows.
