The thing is little mistakes could kill, so the little mistakes get punished severely. Sadly, the modern army is pushing punishment to paperwork, where repetition and pain could fox the issue. Abuse is one thing, but pain+repetition=never forget.

 

It only takes a quick refinish. It's aluminum so just needs anodizing to be refinished.

Colt M4A1 was $1,200 but I'm sure the US Government got a bulk discount lol. I don't know about Canada, but the Federal Police in Mexico favor the Colt M4 carbine as their primary weapon. The Colt pony is visible just from walking past a few Federales. They also like the HK MP5 and Israeli Tavor

 

Exactly. No room for error, but you can estimate error and balance risk to determine multiple courses of action and disseminate to the lowest level (commander to the newest guy lol). We are the only military in the world where the lowest guy has Intel and operating specifics to execute a mission. Makes us flexible and unstoppable.

 

The M4A1 contract wasn't won by Colt, but they designed the upgrades. FN won the upgrade programand all M4A1s are converted Colts or brand new FN M4A1s. My last issued rifle was a converted Colt that went through the M4 burst upgrade and the M4A1 upgrade and had the model "X-ed" over the model and fire rates lol. It's first day at the range i worked Range Safety Officer and it had close to 1500 rounds fired through it, mostly full-auto. That reciever was probably 20 years old lol

 

Did you ever have any issues with your M4 accessories such as sights and lighting?

 

No, but as technology improved and the SOF dudes gear tricked down you could see the improvements. My light went from weighing 1 pound to 1/2 pound, my laser became reliable and durable with great illumination under night vision with repeatable zeroes and my optic turned from a 2.5 moa red dot to a 1 moa red dot to a fiber optic enhanced, etched reticle x4 magnification optic with a BDC reticle where even not zeroed I could hit a target at 300m. Big improvements.
