I just took off my skid plates for the first time and I noticed there were different size bolts and shapes...

One bolt is pointed and has a washer and came off with 1/2" socket...the other bolt is flat and is a flange bolt and came off with a 12 or 13 MM socket

Since this is my first time, I never knew what the original bolts looked like...Im assuming that the flat ones are original because they are metric...but I also wondered if the pointed ones were original and meant for the front 3 bolt positions on the front pan near the radiator

    Enclosing pictures if anyone knows

This is off a 2003 Tacoma TRD 4x4

    TIA
    Jason

Just get some all matching 8mm x 1.25 metric bolts. Grade 8.8 is completely fine- before you break an 8.8 bolt you'll have broken a lot of other stuff down there. Since it's japanese a 12mm head would be more appropriate but I replaced all mine with 13mm flange headed bolts.

I like the flange bolts so I dont have to worry about washers. Grade 8.8, dont worry about corrosion its gonna happen eventually.

Just take those bolts to your nearest Ace Hardeware, and match the thread and pitch. Ask someone for help if you need to, but yeah, there are 2 different sizes iirc, the 3 on the front, then 4 more that bolt to the frame and 2 more that bolt the 2 pieces together.

As long as you match the thread size and pitch, and the general length, that’s all that matters. And washers.

It’s a toyota so they will all be metric...

Then again unless you owned the truck since new no telling what surprises one might find.

Depending where you live trying to get JIS hardware at a Ace Hardware Store or any hardware store can cause either hysterical laughter or Never heard of that

^^ This. The ACE hardware stores out here in the middle of nowhere have a section of Hillman fasteners with good selection of metrics. Actually Lowe's has the same Hillman display if I can't find what I need at my neighborhood Ace.

I havent bought new ones yet...I have a bit of time because I have a bunch of work Im preparing to do...and possibly the timing belt is part of that...trying to figure out motivation levels, but at a minimum I wanted to replace the hardware simply because of the rust

    Those plates look great!

    I think you're right

I have 3 different types now that I took a closer look

I'm thinking they should be the 8T bolts...at least thats what I have on the '14 4Runner...but this Tacoma is '03 so not sure yet what they used way back in the day :)

I go by Racine Toyota almost daily. Are they good there or just like the rest?

It’s my go to dealer. I had issues with my truck. I did a diff swap
I probably been in there 3o-49 times between recalls/gen maintenance/warranty/ questions. They know me on a first name basis. (I have 65,000 miles in 2 yrs) It’s close to my house. On major stuff they gave me a loaner for a week(diff swap). I called daily to find out updates and they gave me a rundown.
They also helped me out of a jam on my radio that was out of warranty. I pulled up and my radio had zero sound. They ran updates and told me a new one was $1200. It’s out of warranty (Too many miles) He told me to call corporate and plead my case#. Toyota Corp called the service manager back ... bingo bango Toyota paid for a new install.
Out of all the others in the area I use Racine. Service manager takes care of me every time. The service advisor Linda also knows me on a first name basis.
I ordered parts one other time. I ordered OEM wiper inserts from parts and got a call 2 days later they arrived. ($8 each side) fair pricing
The bolts I ordered for the skid were under $3 each includes tax at Racine. Other dealers told me I needed to order some $66 bolt kit plus tax. Why?
    It’s 8 bolts.
