Well that’s kind of a long story. This guy was in his 80’s 20 years ago. I have known him all my life. My dad and him farmed and helped each other back in the 40’s and 50’s. So my dad started helping him about 20 years ago. Well the farm got to be to much for both of them so this old man wanted me to help them. So I was working for him (he had cancer three times) well he fell one day and broke his leg above the knee. But with all the cancer he had in the past it would never heal. He was on a walker the rest of his life. He gave me all the equipment and made a deal that I would pay half the expense and he would pay half and furnish the ground and we would divide the profit 50/50. So that’s how it’s been since. I was with him when he passed away 6 years ago and his wife died two years ago. They had one daughter who doesn’t live in this state. When he died she said just keep on farming it because “that’s what daddy would have wanted”

I’m working with the same deal he gave me. Nothing has changed. I own all the equipment, they furnish the ground.

 

That must have been a hell of a relationship.
I had something similar happen, but on a much smaller scale
A year after my dad died I was fishing with one of his buddies. He, out of the blue, asked me what kind of bow I had. Two days later he brings me a brand new $800 bow.
Then, a couple of years ago, he moved to a neighborhood that doesn't allow stuff in the driveway overnight, he has a 2 car garage with 2 vehicles, so he titled his boat to me.
He and my dad did shit for each other for many years. My dad was a mechanic and was always building/fixing shit for that guy. That guy was in a much better financial state than my dad, so he gave my dad stuff.
Relationships like those are few and far between nowdays.

 

Yup, I grew up just a half mile from this farm. My dad was about 15 years younger than this guy. When my dad was still in school he would walk over and do his chores for him before this guy come in from the field. This guys daughter was about 5 and she would stand at the door every night with a book. My dad would finish the chores and go read her book to her. The daughter who is now in her 70’s will never forget this. She still thinks the world of my dad.
