I’m selling / looking to trade my CVT Mt Shasta Extended for a std fly Mt Shasta. Used 4 nights, barely purchased a year ago, on the truck 3-4 months total. I’m located in central Oregon but always down for a road trip! I have pics for people interested. Sorry mods if this is against the rules!

Question: Since a rtt on a bed rack may block the third brake light, would it be legally necessary for us to have the third brake light relocated or have another one installed (like on the rear of the bed rack)? For whatever reason, if you've done a mod where you added a light to act as an additional third brake light, could you please share a link or a summary of how you did it? This is for those of us who have bed racks. I'd imagine the setup may be similar to those using a camper shell w/ a brake light option for their bed cover w/ rtt on top. Thanks in advance.

I've wondered about this, since my RTT is cab height it does block my 3rd brake light. But I haven't had any issues with it yet here in SoCal, been driving it that way for over a year/over 20k miles. Not sure what I would do though if I got dinged for it and had to make it visible, would probably have to mount one to the back of the tent or maybe the tail gate swingout I have.

I've been running an RTT that blocks the 3rd brake light for a couple years now with no issues, but I'm no lawyer lol :notsure:

Just did a quick search and found this.

This might work mounted at the back of the bed rack I'm using. My guess is that other light bars/pods may be setup similarly as additional brake lights (and can also work as chase lights, etc.)

This might work for your swingout.

I replaced literally every bolt that came with the tent and those 4 are rounded hex head in mine with fat fender washers for that very reason. The hardware choice was just a joke on Tepui’s part because they’re all undersized for the less than ideal tolerances.

Going a size up on the ladder made mine so much more stable as it’s a snug fit in the hole. Fortunately the holes were all on exactly the right places.

Dunno if you got an answer but Tepui told me their tents are all 32” center-to-center spacing on the rails.

No. What came with the tent are the split washers

CBI bed rack and sliders, Backwoods Adventure Mods front and rear bumpers, etc. And some stickers.
I added one to my rack mainly for safety, not for avoiding a potential ticket -- you're unlikely to be hassled here in Arkansas, but I've been rear-ended pretty badly in the past ($13K+ damage to my '04 1st gen).

You can get trailer lighting from eTrailer, I got a red LED strip from JC Whitney I think. I stuck the light to the top bar of my rack with 3M tape. I got the wiring diagram from TIS and tapped into the tail light wiring underneath the rear of the bed on the driver's side, using a simple 2-wire connector so I can just disconnect it if I take my rack and tent off.

Ya. If not for the law, I was thinking for safety, too; like when it gets dusty on the trails (especially on night runs). Thanks for sharing, man!

I welded on some light bar tabs for my rear aux. lights and LED 3rd brake light.

The Abrams RED LED light I am using and is insanely bright. It also automatically dims a little bit after being on for about 5-6 seconds. It's one that I would recommend. Only complaint is that the lens is clear and not red, that easily fixed using red lense paint

Yup. Chase light on the trails and doubles as a third brake light on the streets.

Whoa... pump those brakes, man... pump those breaks. No consent was given. Those kind of lights? I'd recommend an Olight SR1 Baton II on turbo mode 1,000lumens in yo face.
