Great example- and right in my neighborhood! There's been a number of times I've backed off something like what you encountered because I didn't trust my 2001 Montero- which has meant a considerable amount of extra hiking for my son and I- like last summer when we went to find the Prescott 19 memorial Juniper on the back side of Granite Mnt. That little turn off Contreras was a bit washed out (we had a better monsoon season last year) and so we hiked all the way to the gate. It's good to stretch your legs and all, but I'm tired of not trusting my vehicle in a situation I know it should be capable of. Thus the new Tacoma.
I'm like you- I may never really push my truck to it's limits, but there's too much great country out here to explore to drive something where you're always second guessing even the "easy" stuff.

When the truck has the multi terrain select it is making a lot of noises. I really do not like it at all.
