New Tacoma owner here. 2019 TRD Offroad DCLB, Quicksand.

TLDR: Are the stock wheels really that bad if I want to play in the mud? Should I replace them along with the tires?

Back story: Just getting started with mods for off roading/camping and I have bought into the conventional wisdom of "Tires, Sliders, Go". Sliders are on order. I'm leaning towards a set of the Goodyear KM3s because I live on the east coast in the flat, flat land of Baltimore. I will not be seeing desert anytime soon, but hopefully there is a bunch of Virginia/Pennsylvania mud not too far away. A limited budget will put off any suspension/lift/CMC/Bad ass Bumpers into the next year or later. Also, I want to avoid buying the expensive stuff until I have more experience. There is just too much I don't know yet. I'll be going to Overland East Expo in October and hope to find a deal on a RTT and bed rack. That's all I really need to hit some busted up fire roads and camp this fall.

Do I really need new wheels? I know I'll get them eventually. Is there a valid safety reason to get them now? I'll make room in the budget for them if that's the case.

    Thanks.

Keep the stock wheels and add 255/85r16 tires. With the offset of the stock rims you can run those 33s on a stock suspension.

Source: My 2018 DCLB OR that ran these tires for months before any lift.
