I've been getting ~17 mpg lately. Local driving, no long trips.
Compared to my old F150 with MT and 4.9L I6 that got ~13 with the same sort of driving.
It's very hilly here, and no major highways close by.

So yeah, I'd consider that positive for local driving here using winter gas.
Plus I'm now driving a much nicer and peppier truck.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
If nothing else my MPG is consistent, there was that positive. I honestly don't care as long as it's in double digits. I don't drive the Land Cruiser or the Taco for their MPG.

When compared to what I had 2013 f150 ecoboost with 3.73 it got better mileage than this 2007 tacoma with more room and 2000 lbs heavier and could safely tow more and the mirrors could view more, I could go on and on, like more balls when you dropped the hammer.

Purchased new to me supercharged dcsb or with 265/75-16’s on it a month ago. Was getting 14-15 hwy mpg. Threw in a bottle of Lucas fuel system cleaner last week, then just got back from a 600 mile trip. Averaged 17mpg on the way up and 19.3mpg on the way down!!

Twelve years ago I traded a 2002 F-150 Supercrew that got 14 mpg city, and 17 hwy for a similar 2007 Tacoma that gets 17 mpg city and 20 hwy. The Tacoma only had 10 fewer HP but being 1500 lbs lighter had much more power. The Ford was rated to tow 300 lbs more weight. After 194,000 miles I figure I've burned about 1700-2000 gallons less fuel than I would have with the older truck. At an average cost of $2.50/gallon over that time I've saved $4000-$5000 in gas money.

Calling BS on the fuel mileage.

The Tacoma is small and is not perfect for everyone, that is true. In 2007 when I traded my Ford for the Tacoma my youngest had moved out and I no longer needed a big truck. The Tacoma was perfect, but after 10 years things had changed. Almost 3 years ago we determined the need for a bigger truck and I went with a 2014 Ford similar to your's and kept the Tacoma as a 3rd vehicle. The Ford is bigger, more comfortable, and tows slightly more weight. And while they have improved fuel mileage compared to the older 2002 I used to own, it still won't match let alone beat a Tacoma all things being equal.

The difference in fuel mileage may be close enough now to not be a deciding factor. But the tow ratings on a typical Tacoma is less than 1000 lbs lower than a typical 1/2 ton truck. With performance that close, one shouldn't expect a huge difference in fuel mileage. You can get a Tacoma with a 4 cyl rated to tow 1/2 what a typical 1/2 ton will tow and see a huge advantage in fuel mileage. Yes Ford, Chevy, and Dodge advertise trucks rated to tow a lot more, but those trucks are unicorns that are usually special orders. Not your typical truck on the road. And after you spec one to handle that much weight, the fuel mileage is no longer in the same league as Tacoma.

Truck's paid for and has been bulletproof.
Whatever I pay in gas at 18.3mpg is trivial

Hit the 1/4 mark (14 gallons consumed) at 350 on trip A. Thats right at 25 mpg. My best mileage to date on bay are roads, hills, and traffic. Topper plus tools is roughly 500+ lbs in the back so not an empty bed cheat. Also transpo'd 190' of casing on the roof rack and a squeeze plank on top of the standard load for part of it.

The same shit everyone else has.
    I’ll play.

Last fill up, I was skeptical because the scan gauge said 17mpg, but I calculated it to 17.2mpg.

Pleasantly surprised with this mileage on the 285s. Hopefully this isn’t a fluke and this continues to be the norm since it’s warming up finally.

I was only getting mid-high 14mpg when it was cold out.

I was worried after swapping in a new ARB bumper as the first tank averaged 14.6 mpg, but the tank after that I averaged 16.7 and it looks, currently, like I'll be able to hit 16.3-16.6 mpg. I'm running OME 3" with 886 front coils and Dakar leafs with Nitrochargers at all four corners and 255/85r16 Cooper ST-MAXX tires

Those Dakotas were known to be real hogs. My 4.0 Ranger got 16, this 2.7L gets averages 23-24 combined city/highway. That last post included more than an hour and a half idling in traffic today. Id rather not push it that far but the range has been excellent and the light very consistently coming on at ~3 gal remaining. In this case at ~420. No lift and good mileage were priorities this time around.

17.9-20.1 mpg depending on what I'm doing. 2008 DCSB TRD OR Prerunner, 150k miles. Happy with that. Never got under 17.9, interestingly.

It’s a truck, I could care less about my mpg... is that positive? Lol

I did notice an increase in mpg when I removed that ugly uni-strut Prinsu rack thingy that was on my truck when I bought it. The Prinsu delete was the best mod I’ve done to my truck so far
