I thought Toyota got away from the tranny line running in the radiator after all the pink foam issues years back. I could totally be wrong on that. Can anyone confirm?
I know I have a factory tranny cooler (tow package and OR package).

So I was wrong. Tranny lines still run into the radiator. So is the tenant making the engine hotter or vice versa? If it’s the tranny making the engine hotter, wth do I do to change that?

Id think it would be easy enough to pop the hood and trace the lines to/from the cooler.. Cant recall them running through my main radiator, but then again I never paid close attention.

The variation in the low end range of your temps seems weird to me though. Once my truck is warmed up, the water temp is rock solid between 190-193 °F. Only time Ive ever seen it dip below 190 °F (after warmed up of course) was with ambient air temps about 10-15 below zero °F. Think it hovered around 180 while idling on that trip

I've been having similar issues, but I have the 6 speed so no cooler in the radiator. I cleaned the radiator with a hose with not much change. A few weeks ago I actually saw 212 on my UG on the highway. Coolant level is normal and no leaks and the cap seems to be in tact. I'm thinking the radiator just needs to be cleaned out better, it's hard to get to it with the fan shroud in the way. My truck only has 55k on it.

You guys need to pull the shroud, unbolt the radiator and pull it away from the condensor. Over the years ALOT of crap can get jammed in there. Spray out the radiator and condensor from both sides.

I'll be doing this tomorrow. Something odd is happening. Drive thru town yesterday, all temps were as normal as could be in 97° temps. For the first 10-15 minutes on the highway all temps are normal. Theeeeeeeeen things get weird. Usually that's from a heat soak but IAT's are staying below 100°. In my FZJ80, IAT's would be 140°+ & it never got this hot. But then again, those things are tanks.

This is wayyy under appreciated on Tacomaworld. Especially for people in hot climates. What fluid do you use? Isn’t the fluid what dictates when it slips? How do you adjust the on temp otherwise??

Also just wanted to add that a weeping water pump is not necessarily a sign of failure. They’re designed to do that under certain circumstances

Before you go to San Marcos or Universal Toyota(SA), pull the grill off the front of your truck and hose down the condenser; then go in from the back side and do the radiator. If you're serious about the radiator, pull the cowling off first.

Here is a old writeup on it. Not all fan clutches are adjustable, but all I have come across have been. The heavier the fluid the less slip, adjusting it just changes when it starts to lockup, where as the fluid changes how hard it pulls air. So even if you cant adjust the on temp you can change the fluid and make it cool better.

You can start with a lighter fluid but I just go straight to 10cst now.
