I call shenanigans. If i let my truck idle I wouldn't get 29MPG. If not shenanigans then please let us know your trick.

    EDIT:

I just read your lil post thingie. I see, you have a 2.7. Albeit 29 mpg is still impressive on a 2.7, I would have found it impossible on a 4.0, although it would be nice and probably double the book value of the taco.

When I was shopping around, the 2.7s were only getting a [documented] 1-2 mpg better on average for a lot less power in return. Ultimately, I needed the full double cab, but I did look at one AC with a 2.7 back in the day and the salesman did everything he could to talk me out of it.

Bank account hates it, but I love the 4.0, namely for passing donks who go 40 on the highway where I live (posted 65, most people go 75).

    Cruise control ..... 60 mph ..... don't exceed 2000 rpms ..... pretty much it.

ps .... if you let your truck idle it gets 0 mpg [IMG].

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
On my way to work I was cruising at 60 MPH and got passed by Tacoma which probably was going way over 70 MPH. I wonder if it is one of you complaining about bad fuel MPG :p

I usually get about 415 to 425 with a mix of hwy and city. Not to shabby for a pickup.

I don't get the best mileage anymore now that I have a lift and bigger tires, but I just spend more money on gas and less money on beer

Averaged 19.8 on the last two tankfuls, all city driving. I can't account for the (to me) much better mileage than previous, nothing has changed as far as driving style (old ladyish) and/or fill up procedures or locations. I'm perfectly happy with 19.8 in a 4x4 auto 4.0L, though, it's a lot better than my 07 two-door JK Rubi.

I just drove mine from Virginia to Florida and got 18.3mpg. I was hoping for better. I have a K&N air filter, TRD exhuast, Tornado Fuel Saver, a tonueau cover, and am running 275/70/16's. Also had just changed the plugs/Oil, used BG 44k and had 36lbs of air in the tires. I figure my odometer is a little off with the bogger tires, but how much??

Are you serious you have the tornado fuel saver? If so, lose that and the KN and go to AFE drop in and you'll do better. Odm is off with the tires, check % over stock for the formula.

My rig only gets 14.5 - 15 mpg at 80 mph, so I doubt he was travelling that fast......
    These trucks need another gear....

lately i've been getting around 18mpg. i have a double cab short bed. i upgraded the stock 245's with 265 mud tires. i also have a flowmaster 44 muffler. i would probably get better gas mileage if all my driving wasn't short trips to town and back. most i've ever got was around 20-21. but that's been a while.
