    Mostly old stuff out of copyright.

    Currently I'm reading "The River War" by Winston Churchill.
    About the 1898-9 campaign up the Nile to take revenge for the slaughtering of General Gordon and his men at Khartoum some years earlier.
    Churchill participated in the battle of Omdurman and the last large scale cavalry charge by the British army.
    He gives some unvarnished views on the inhabitants, their customs, religion, morals, fatalistic outlook, etc.
    Stuff you'll never see otherwise in these PC times. :p

    A professor once told me that 95% of everything published is utter crap.
    And the so-so 4%, after a few years, will lie unread in library stacks...
    ...except by the occasional grad students looking to bulk up citations in their theses and dissertations.

    Which leaves maybe 1% that has any lasting value.
    And a lot of that is old...and free. :)

    They ( ACOE) built a bridge over the Merrimack River in Lowell,MA that was “temporary “ more than thirty years ago. Maybe more , and I haven’t heard spit on a new one . Ever.
