I have a 2007 Tacoma sport with the 4.0 6 speed. My truck is making a whining ish noise but it’s not high pitch and I can’t completely tell if it’s from my belts or tranny. It makes the noise non stop when it’s running but when I press the clutch it sort of sounds like it changes a tiny bit I did notice my belt tensioner was sloppy and making a slight noise when I changed my serpentine belt and moved it with my hand but I don’t think it could make that loud of a noise. I can’t even hear my engine over the noise but it consistently gets louder when I step on the gas my alternator also made a slight squeak when I spun it but it was very quiet. I’m going to replace my clutch and tensioner but if that doesn’t fix it what else could it be?

I also have put 34 in nitto trail grapplers on which use to be very loud but I can’t even hear my tires over the noise no matter how fast I am going

Turn the engine on, pop the hood, try to pin point location of noise. Might be the power steering pump all the way to the throw out bearing.

Pull the accessory belt, and spin all of the idler pulleys and accessories.

    Report back.

I did that last night and only the tensioner was making noticeable noise and the alternator was making a slight chirch at certain spots but the noise is like a winding noise

Does it get louder if you turn the steering wheel?

Typically if it the noise matches rpm changes, and isn't an internal problem, then it is either an accessory or idler pulley.

probably the belt/pulleys. RPM will change when you depress the clutch. take the belt off and start spinnin shit. you'll feel grind or grit in one of them guaranteed.

4.0's are known for idlers. Specifically the one right next to the alternator and oil filter. Get a stethoscope.

The whining sounds just like an alterntator and directly matches revs with motor.
