Here's a quick & dirty hack for concealing rusty bed bolts in your 3rd gen. I'm in northeast Ohio where the winter road salt attacks bare metal in any form, anywhere on your truck. I couldn't stand looking at these things, despite my bed being a bit scuffed up otherwise. They stuck out like 6 sore thumbs.
    1. Wash & dry any area you want to attack
    2. Use some press 'n seal cling wrap with a sharp blade to mask off the bolt heads and limit the overspray to keep things looking somewhat tidy.
    3. Grab your favorite rattle can - this should work with anything - spray paint, plasti-dip, bedliner, etc.
    4. A few shots on the bolt heads and those rusty nightmares disappear. The same piece of cling wrap can be re-used for all 6 bolts.
The whole process took all of 8 minutes to hit all six bolts and cost $0! ...so long as you have some old rattle can in the garage and some press n' seal in the kitchen.

Looks pretty good! Did you hit them with anything to clean up the rust first, or just go over it?

Would it not have been faster to just unscrew them and paint them?

This has me motivated to do mine... though I think I will brush on POR-15.

Comes in black like the cap. I have used the gray, years ago.
