My truck came with the cover and like Age315 said you have to go around and make sure it "clicks" into place on the latches which helps the seal. I haven't had major water leakage and I drove through a couple gully-washers here recently that would have drove water into the bed for sure. I do notice that water seems to pool on top of it a little so its possible that might find its way in over time. I garage my truck so that helps with keeping things dry and that could be a difference. I am sure the Southwest sun will eventually wear it out even using Formula 303 on it. I like it but there are probably better after market versions out there.

I just purchased a 2019 TRD sport that had the hard factory tri-fold cover on it. Don't think I'm going to like it would like to go with a soft tri-fold. My question is the hardware that the cover latches onto on the bed of the truck if I were to go with another cover what all has to go with the cover I was thinking about removing it and trying to sell it and go with a soft tri-fold.

OEM looks good. I have a Switchblade by Pace Edwards. It doesn’t leak, but it the tracks broke so it won’t retract anymore. Looking into a diamondback now, but not sure if I want something that requires disassembly to use the bed.

It came with the truck but I wouldn’t pick one out to purchase. Much better options for the price.

Isn't the above statement true of practically ever component installed on new vehicles these days.

I have the OEM cover and like it very much. It leaks a little during a downpour but stays fairly dry for the most part. The below photo shows how much water collected in the bed the next morning after it had been raining fairly hard consistently for about 18 hours. Also, Toyota doesn't claim it's water tight, just water resistant, which it is.

Also I like the bit of security it adds along with locking the tailgate. Of course a persistent ne'er-do-well could break in, however that's fairly true of any locking cover.

The OEM cover added $650 to my 2018 TRD Sport MSRP which I consider very reasonably priced. By the way, I was told by more than one dealer that the OEM cover had to come on Tacoma, thus couldn't be purchased/installed by Toyota after the fact.

Mine came on the truck. For me, it works great. Like others have said, leak issue at tailgate can be fixed with an aftermarket seal ESI Tailgate Seal available on Amazon and other websites. Enjoy your ride!:mudding:

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. I don’t really like how the front 1/3 cannot be folded up, and a lot of the covers on here are the same? Does anyone have a recommendation of one that can be folded up completely and lean up toward the rear window without having to remove completely?

Relentless Fab hybrid bumper, 2.5” Dobinsons IMS lift, RCI skids and sliders, block heater. Painted FJ Steelies. Was trying to keep it stock, now slowly building for the Wisconsin trails.
The OEM cover was one of the accessories I wanted when I was looking at tacos. Considering that Extang’s current covers are all $800+ , $650 seems like a deal. Being in Wisconsin and knowing my truck will be kept outside I mainly wanted to keep the snow out. I get a little water in the front in heavy rain. I don’t think that is the covers fault. I believe it’s coming from the gaps at the front of the bed. Doesn’t bug me as I don’t keep anything in the bed that can’t get a little wet. I do keep a wrench in the truck to take it off if needed. One bolt isn’t a big issue for me.

I like my oem cover. As mentioned above the only downside is needing a socket to completely uncover the bed, beats having it stolen.

***UPDATE*** Purchased the 2019 TRD PRO VOODOO. 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4
*Moto Fab Lifts* Level Kit (3x2)(Comming soon)! Bed Mat. Hondo AR-15 Radio knobs. Weather Tech Rain guards. Diode Dynamics interior LED's.(Wish List), Center console divider. Keeper Gun Magnet. 2" hose clamp Tailgate mod (along with about half of the "Cheep/Free Mods").Oh, my favorite "mod" is the AJT DESIGN Key fobs! (will need two more Voodoo Blue).
When purchasing my 2016 TRD sport, back in the year 2016, my truck did not have a factory cover. Living in New England and not having a garage, I need a way to keep the snow out. Was told the factory tonneau was not available. Did a little research and purchased the Extang Tri-fold 2.0. Excellent cover worked well until a small branch broke a put a hole in it. I went to Home Depot, found a vinyl repair kit and fixed it. No big deal. However, from that day forward every time I walked by my truck my eye went straight to the repair spot reminding me how fragile a vinyl l tonneau cover is. I recommend factory OEM.

Biggest complaint I’ve heard is that they leak. May not be a deal breaker for some but the whole reason I want a cover is to keep things dry.
