I remember when my Mom was trading her Rogue in I saw the salesman use an app with that company to get the trade in price. When she traded her old Forester for her new, I used that as my baseline price point for the trade and had little issue getting it.

When I got my insurance check for my Tacoma, prices were pretty in-line with that value. Above trade-in, but below retail. Don't forget if it's a total loss the company will buy it from you and give you sales tax as well. If you go through the other party's insurance they may try and pull a fast one and not. When I had my accident, my company, VT Mutual didn't initially want to total, they wanted to reframe and rebuild. Mapfre, the other person's insurance wanted to total me out. I initially started working with them, but they then told me that they would give me a check for my truck, less salvage and excluding sales tax, but I'd retain the truck and had to move it out of the body shop in 24 hours. I later found out the salvage value was something like $13,500. They claimed they'd work with me to get the salvage price, but wouldn't include sales tax. At first, prior to knowing salvage value and dumbly assuming it would be $2,000-3,000 I thought cool, I could make some $$$ out of the deal.

I immediately put the kibosh on that, re-engaged VT Mutual who also totaled out my truck and gave me a check for more than I paid for it new. Granted, I lost out on a few thousand in mods I had, but the truck was 3.5 years old and had 43k on it. Overall, it wasn't awful, except I loved that stupid truck.

Only way to get money back for mods is to give slips to your insurance company when you buy them or get them installed. At least that's what my company (Mapfre or whatever) says I need to do.

Also, just a big reminder, dealers don't give two shits about your mods and if anything it will bring the trade value down. YOU NEVER get your money back on that stuff, unless you sell private party to someone who doesn't have any interest in building their own.

I had a really long discussion with my insurance company about this and this is where we ended. If I want them to cover mods, I need to specifically have a rider on my policy stating as much. I don't have any riders like that. So that's fine, if I wreck my truck and it's my fault and my insurance is covering the damage, I lose the modifications and accessories. But, in my case where it's someone else's fault, they said very clearly they should put the truck back the way it was before the wreck. Right now, I'm being optimistic and operating under that premise. The most expensive things on the truck are the new wheels I bought (which are Ford wheels and they'll be replaced), the Diamondback bed cover (which seems to have been undamaged) and the LED headlight conversion (and all 4 LEDs actually still work, it's just the housing that's toast). If they fix the truck, the other stuff I added was all interior and wasn't damaged. If they total it, I'll have a fight on my hands getting the value to replace the truck, then put the mods on it (or I'll see what I can strip off the old truck and transfer it over if I end up getting the same thing). Regardless, you rarely come out on top when it comes to accidents so I'm just staying optimistic until I hear something concrete.

The biggest thing I'm worried about is my camping trips! I work hard and planned those trips a long time ago. I hope they can come through with a rental that will allow me to tow so I don't have to miss the trips.

    Morning all!
    Happy Monday...
Pats laid a beatdown yesterday. Wasn't even a game, so much as a massacre.

From the photo you shared on Friday, I'd be surprised if they totaled it, unless the rear impact somehow bent the frame?

I doubt the rear impact bent the frame, it just bent up the bedsides and bumper. The rear axle and suspension seem to be fine and the tailgate seems straight also. I'm worried about the front end with regards to a bent frame. I apparently broke the axle and you can see where the tow hook is attached to the frame is all mangled. The wild card is the engine although I'd be surprised if they told me anything from the engine got hit. If the frame is bent up front, I hope they total it. I'm not crazy about the idea of straightening a frame. I know it can be done, I just don't think it should be done on a fairly new vehicle. If the frame is fine, then I'm indifferent. I love the truck so if they can fix it and get it back to me the way it was, perfect. If they total it and I have to go buy another one, aside from the hassle of truck shopping, I get a new-to-me truck and maybe get a diesel this time.

Oh wow, you broke the front axle? That's a surprise; it looked like the wheel was mostly where it was supposed to be in that photo. That might change things, then...

I didn't notice that until I saw it at the body shop. It was still on the ground so it's hard to see what actually happened, it could just be the outer seal that broke but it lost the oil from the front axle and the universal joint looks like it's broken. The body shop guys seemed to be confident that the axle was toast (whether that means the tube was bent or something was broke, I'm not sure) so I'm just going off of what they said. The tracking bars seemed OK but it's bent to begin with and hard to say if it's bent even more. It should go on the lift today so they'll be able to get under it and see what's what.

Ouch. Fingers crossed that it doesn't screw up your camping plans, then.

For what it's worth, the GF killed the power mower yesterday  She hit a stump with it the last time she mowed, so I replaced the blade and told her not to mow that section until I could get in there with the tractor and pop the stump out. Yesterday she mowed in there again anyway, and this time she bent the shaft and cracked the block.

A small price to pay for a woman that mows the lawn.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I put some more coldwater fish on deck Saturday, then floated about 15 miles of the Merrimack on Sunday targeting smallmouth with the Pats on the radio. No pics of the smallies but some from Saturday:

Lake to myself Saturday between the raindrops. I love September fishing and Sunapee is still fishing well:

I suppose. We only paid $100 for the mower like 4 years ago. But, this is only the second time this summer that she's mowed, and she broke the mower both times

    Nice fish, though.

As an aside, what's your enclosed sled trailer rated for, weight-wise?

    It's GVWR is 6000lb, it weighs 1800lbs, so 4200lbs.

Gotcha. Seems about average from what I'm seeing.

We may have finally convinced the grandparents that it's time to move. So I'm debating on renting an enclosed trailer or an open one for haulage purposes. The enclosed units obviously offer better protection, but they don't seem like you can fit a lot in them, and they've got lower weight capacity as well. Although I did find one at the local rental agency that's 14 feet long, but it's only rated for something like 5000lbs of cargo.

On the other hand, furniture doesn't weigh as much as gravel, so maybe 5k would be plenty? I'm just trying to find something that'll let me minimize the number of trips we need to make; if my parents find them a house in the Farmington area it's a 3 hour drive one way, so it's not like we can make 3 trips in a day.

I have absolutely loaded mine to the ceiling with furniture and boxes for moving. I think it would be hard to overload it with just furniture and housewares. It's nice having an enclosed for that stuff since you can load it and leave it in there overnight without worrying about rain or anything.

Very true. I probably will end up going with a big enclosed unit. It's a $75 per day rental, but if it meant not having to make 5 trips with a dinky 12 foot U-haul with a defective surge brake then it'd be worth it.

Whats's going on people, haven't posted in a while. @Pugga glad you're okay, goodluck with the truck!

Anyone know about how much it costs to drop a transmission and replace a clutch? I'm getting damn tired of hearing my throw-out bearing squeak and figured once the tranny is dropped I might as well replace the clutch. I know the URD replace TOB is like $250/300
