Confused where I put my message.I hear an out of round sound coming from the engine compartment. It starts at 31mph and up. 1996 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. 202,000. I had the small shaft lubricated, I hand the tires rebalanced and rotated.Still have the problem.Fan problem?

Drive the truck a 1/4 mile or so in 2nd or 3rd gear. Then:

If you hear the out-of-round sound a lot sooner then the problem lies somewhere between the middle of the tranny and the fan.

If you don't hear the out-of-round sound until 31 mph then the problem is somewhere between the middle of the tranny and the tires.

I had a similar experience 4 years ago. I checked the tread on my tires and they were all slightly cupped. A set of new Michelin tires cured the problem.
