Howdy - I'm in the process of searching for a successor to my 2000 T4R, and I'm seriously stuck between a 5th gen T4R or a DCLB Tacoma. I have a buddy with a SB and a 4runner that will let me check them out next week, but I can't seem to find a friend with a long bed Tacoma to look at in person. I could go to a dealership, but I didn't want to get the full sales pitch and have to give my phone or email over to them to contact me endlessly.

With the LB, I'm just worried about getting around parking decks and the truck length in the city in general. It looks to be roughly 3ft longer than my current 4runner which is super nimble.

Not trying to start another Tacoma or 4runner thread, but giving my thought process in hopes someone might help me resolve my dilemma:

Either option would essentially be a SUV, as I'd add a topper to a Tacoma. I'm mostly leaning DCLB with a mid rise camper top and rack because of the ability to stretch out and sleep in the back on camping trips with my lady and our new 3 month old tagging along as she grows up. I'd probably do a platform with sliding drawers for storage. I also assume the Tacoma will feel more like my current setup handling and driving wise and interior room wise. The 5th gen 4runners just seem so BIG. I'd very rarely have more than just 2 adults, the car seat, and some small pups in the truck, so I'm not superrr concerned with the lack of back cab space on the Tacoma vs the 4runner.

I do HATE to give up leather, sunroof, and the roll down back window I currently have, and it seems significantly harder to find the sunroof on Tacomas. (I previously owned a new 2014 fulllly optioned out DCSB and loved it, just not the payments - hence the move to the older 4runner)

It seems like the best choice would be the 4runner, with the ease of finding all the options I'd like. I just have a thing for the Tacoma styling and want something similar feeling to the 3rd gen 4runner if possible.

Thanks for sticking through the long 1st post if you made it this far. I'll grab whoever is willing to show off their truck a beer.

Don't let parking be your main concern. I have an access cab and parking is a hassle in downtown Atlanta. However, there are plenty of full size truck owners who park downtown. It's not ideal, but it's definitely doable, especially nowadays with rear cameras and park assist sensors.

Thanks Early B. I do recall the camera making backing into spots super easy.

You can rent anything from a 1997 Honda Civic to a 1965 Cadillac El Dorado to a 2015 Lamborghini Huracan.

X2 2019 dclb from an 02 xcab parking in a tight area can be a hassle at times , depends on how patient people are at times in order to back up a bit and get in to the space

long beds were hard to find in 3rd gen (Tacoma) and 4x4 configuration (atleast in Atlanta) when i was looking circa 18'-19'. Shouldnt be much different than a short bed in terms of driveability. Cant comment on the 4runner except i have friends who love theirs as much as i like my Tacoma
