Damaged my tailgate. Questions

I banged a trailer on my tailgate and got ugly scratch to the bare metal.

I wanted to know if the tailgate is steel or aluminum.

Biggest concern is preventing corrosion.

 

Not sure, but see if a magnet sticks to it. If no, then its aluminum. If yes, its steel.

may want to keep your eye on craigslist if your not in a hurry to fix , they come up often in our area , mostly white but have sen colours as well .

 

Just go to the back of the mall parking lot and get a new one. Take your pick, they come right off.

get some touch-up paint and put another 150k on the truck and you wont notice it.

 

Heck, a month or so ago, I "backed" my motorcycle into my tailgate and left a ding the size of a quarter!

 

At least pick and same color truck and swap tailgates. Have a heart, man!

 

I'd touch it up with some touch up paint if you're worried about rust. Getting ready for a camping trip my son gave mine a ding the size of nickel. I see it as a theft deterrent now because no one wants a tailgate that has a dent.

 

My co-worker has a frontier and he melted a hole in the plastic cap on his tailgate by running his woodsplitter too close.

Fixed it with duct tape lol.

 

I don't feel as bad anymore...
