    Hello,

I am a new owner of a 2019 DCLB OR 4x4. I am looking for some options for protecting the truck from door dings. I tend to park away from vehicles as much as possible, but I surf and sometimes you just have to grab any parking spot that is free and hope that you don't get dinged.

I don't need a step function but if I do a lift it could come in handy as well as washing the top of the truck. Anyhow I have the ability to get a decent deal on the Toyota OEM Accessories from the dealer I bought the truck form. Before buying I want to make sure the 5 oval" DCLB tube steps will provide some level of protection against door dings. If anyone has them can you please confirm or deny that they extend past the truck's widest portion of the doors, and if so how much? It's really hard to tell from the photos. There are a tons of side steps, running boards and rock slider options but wanted to try to stick with OEM wheel to wheel look.. for now.

    Thank you in advance!

    Pick of new ride :)

Bump! I may have to go down to the dealership to see if they protect the doors at all. Might go with the 2nd gen running boards as well.

I don't think tube steps will protect from door dings at all. I got them for the styling myself. You can always get door edge protectors which will protect your door edges, but really, nothing is going to protect the sides of your own truck from someone else opening their door into the side of your truck. Just do what I have been doing, and park WAY away from anyone so nobody will park next to you. The walk does one good...

The 5" oval steps will protect your door a little (they do stick out a bit from the side of the truck/doors), if the person opening it onto your truck has the right height or straight doors. If they have a bigger truck or something where their doors are higher than your steps, of course it won't help. Also the rear doors on a lot of cars have angles on them for going over the rear wheel arches such that the part that swings out comes to a point higher up than your steps probably would be. So yes and no. Better than nothing, but far from 100% protection.

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it. I think I'm going to get the oval steps and buy some paint matching door protectors for it!

Got the DCLB 5" OEM oval tube steps and really like them. Like deusxanime said they do still out from the doors just a tad so they should help with protecting the doors from careless people. Spent a day researching the various options and I am glad got the OEMs.The way they match the black fender flares and fills out the long bed profile is awesome. Couple of pics.

I’ve got the OEM cast aluminum running boards ... I believe they fit the bill for what you’re looking for.

Looks great! I was close in getting the aluminum running boards or the Gen 2s, but the dealer wanted mucho $$$. I was able to get the OEM tubes for 239+tax. I really wanted the full wheel to wheel look and I'm happy that they will hopefully provide some level of protection.
