    More flex off roading. All the stress is up front from the cab forward.

    Definitely not. I am not a production line engineer but my guess is parts sharing is one part of the equation. For example, think how much more efficient it would be to share one coolant reservoir between the Tundra/Tacoma. The same with fasteners, battery cables, etc.

    Not going to lie, a Hybrid Taco would be pretty dope. And Toyota has the wherewithal to do it right.

    One Tesla battery produces 1 metric ton of carbon and it take 8 years for the avg. car to do that.

    Yep, and battery pack replacement costs have come way down in price over the years. You can get DIY battery replacement kits for less than $1500. Average dealer cost to do it is around $2400. Thats really not too bad.

    My guess is that the length of the two large frame rails and cab/bed mounting points would be shared but the width of the cross members would be different to achieve two different widths.

    The $400 million dollar TX plant upgrade is an investment that will pay off in the long run.

    Aren’t the Tacoma and Tundra very different lengths? How would you be able to utilize identical length frame rails on both platforms?

    So you’re right.
    The Tesla battery over its life produces less carbon than the average combustion vehicle during its life.

    And, as there are Tesla vehicles that have been driven several hundred thousand miles, it’s potentially a lot less carbon emitted for the electric vehicle as the mileage increases.

    Combustion vehicles also don’t tend to operate cleaner as they become a lot older.

    You do get the privilege of changing your oil every 5,000 or 10,000 miles though! Among other items like spark plugs, transmission fluid, mufflers and brakes more frequently.

    Stopping for gas once a week. It’s alright.

    Plugging in your vehicle every night at home in your own garage and/or at work every day. Priceless!

    Well, at least potentially it’s free or just a few bucks.

    I don't know for sure how it would work with the Taco & Tundra, but many manufacturers nowadays are shifting to "global architecture" platforms which are basically modular in order to fit a number of vehicles. You can add/subtract or scale down certain areas to fit the vehicle.

    I have heard of many global platforms, but the applications of that seem to be all unibodies as far as I know. Anybody know how it would work on BOF vehicles? Somebody mentioned the Titan and the Frontier, is it literally just the same frame but smaller?

    I am a bit surprised that it took auto manufacturers this long to come up with the shared platform idea. It’s a no brainer from a manufacturing point of view.

    Probably. Just a scaled up or down version, perhaps with small tweaks to certain areas, beefing up thicknesses, etc. Basically the manufacturers are trying to avoid designing frames from scratch for every new vehicle as it costs a lot of money.

    Not my first Toyota but first Taco. I bought a New 1997 FJ 40 toyota, a 1984 Toyota P.U and a 1992
    4 Runner . I have needed large pickups until now. Ford F 250, Dodge 3500 DWD diesel. And now the 2019 Tacoma.

    It sounds like some of you are wayyyyy behind on auto mfg technology and engineering. Shared platforms are the norm today and essential to be competitive AND deliver profits. Shared platform doesn’t mean “identical”. They’re modular, with a handful of options, but with the same core, then they can put the skin of their choice on it.
