I have a 97 Taco, I just put in new doors that I got from an 01 with power windows and door locks. Same plugs, looked like my truck was prewired. I plugged it all in but not working. However, when I push the door lock on the passenger side window, it blows the 15amp fuse (located in the engine compartment) for the radio, clock and dome light. The pink fuse in the picture below is somewhat related to power windows (that is what I read from an online search) and the slot next to it empty. I am wondering if some type of fuse or relay goes into the empty slot. Any inputs? on how to remedy thus...

I bet the wiring changed between 97 and 01. Just because the connector fit does not mean that you matched up the right wires. Did you confirm there are the same number of wires on both connectors? You will need a wiring diagram for 97 power windows and 01 power windows to verify.

It’s the fusebox under the dash. Toyota calls it an integration module.

The 2001-2004 harness is entirely different than the 1995-2000 harness. Some things like different pin outs and lack of courtesy lights.

Sorry to necro thread but this was the latest one i could find regarding window conversion, Bart, i'm shopping around for a new truck and all i'm finding are manual locks/windows. To get some clarification, if i say end up getting an 03 extra cab that has the plug in the kicker panel, can i basically just swap doors with power ones and plug n play?

    • If it has a plug there, is it guaranteed to work or could still not work?
    • If it works, are there certain years that will only work? Do i have to have an 03 of the same trim to plug n play? is it 01-04?
    • If no plug underneath then do i need to do a full wire setup like you did or is there a way to pull the inside harness for just the doors and basically install the "missing plug"?

No. Not plug n play at all. The harness is there but the integration module / B-ECU is completely different.

Find a truck with power windows. Not worth the effort.

I would love to find a a truck with power windows but it's not happening, I've checked about every online car site i can think of, even checked eBay autos.

So if it has the harness in the car already and i get an ECU that came from a powered vehicle, would that work then? I'm looking to build a cruise/show car so another couple hundred into it to have remote keyed and power locks/windows is worth it. Hell i currently have an 01 4x4 with all power that i'm working on selling to buy an 01-04 2wd extra cab, if i know it works i'd just pull off my doors and throw them on the next good priced 2wd manual i find. doubt it would hurt the resell value of my 4x4 as everyone around here obviously doesn't care about having manual windows.

I would keep looking if I were you. The right truck will come up. I wouldn't even bother trying to mess with the B-ECU, there's just so many factors and variables at play and most people I see try to do it give up. You're not the first person to ask this. Most 2001-2004 trucks are power equipped, I'm surprised you're having a hard time.

i'm looking for 2wd(not prerunner), manual with power. All i can ever find is 1 or 2 of the 3. typically it's 4x4 manual power or 2wd automatic with power. Yeah i can't believe it's been this difficult. Got my truck for $6k and most the 2wd ones are around $3-4k with 200k miles. I figured i'd find one easy and throw my current truck up for sale which would cover the cost of new truck and put some $$ in my pocket to dump into it but no such luck and been looking month or so now.

So you want a 5-Lug Manual? Those are common as dirt.

I can't find one within like 500 miles, except for the rare ones with like 100k miles and they want $10k for it

You looking for the v6 variation or the I4? Toyota discontinued the 5-Lug v6 in 2000 and replaced it with the S-Runner in 2001.

I'm good with either 4 or 6 cylinder, 01-04. I live in Idaho, it's all 4x4 out here, all the ones i've found in Utah are 2wd but autos or no power.

I'll be dropping it and eventually bagging it down the road. Like the body style of the 1st gen 2000s vs the 90s. I've wanted one since i was 17 and got into cars, almost 40 and have a decent job, it's time to treat myself to a fun project truck.
