If possible, pay attention to WHEN it's misfiring when you send your feedback to Zendesk. For example, are the misfires generally happening when the engine is cold and warming or more prevalent when accelerating or coming to a stop? No need to post here, but know the detail around when they occur will be helpful to OVTune. For me, stock, I get 2-8 on a cold start in the morning, rarely more - except when it's really cold out. And subsequent starts with a warm engine rarely produce more than 2-3 misfires in a trip, and generally once up to operating temp I'll hardly ever see a misfire. All versions of the tune, for me, have resulting in a tad higher misfire count, but never anything on the verge of a code or any noticeable misfire feeling or loss of power.

I keep holding out hoping someone will eventually figure out what causes the higher-than-average misfires on some trucks vs. others. And most don't know if it is or isn't until you do some logging since a single cylinder misfire sporadically isn't going to be noticed by the driver generally speaking. I know some trucks hardly ever misfire, and others can have a dozen misfires with no other known performance issues or codes thrown. Something is up there... hello Toyota

 

I think you are going to have a hard time with this. Half of us (me included) will want you to rev third to get into fourth at a good power point. The other half will cry about revving their engine too high. This story of my commute is really about this shift point.

Dongle user here and been on latest 2.0. What is everyone using to monitor missfires?

My truck was built on November 16, but not listed in the CPS TSB. I sometimes get the bumpy road feeling but after 55000 miles it may not be that sensor. No need to replace something that isn't the problem.

 

Bumpy road is likely (in my experience) more torque converter slip than anything. Likely not a misfire if it's bumpy road feeling

It seems like the shift from 3rd to 4th might be just a difference of opinions, maybe the final release could have 2 different options, that way everyone is happy.

Personally I don't notice it much and couldn't care less and suspect many feel the same silently.

 

Got my notification too. Hope the new dump tube tune is released by the time we receive them.

 

Is that torque converter slip typical or part of the tune algorithm? It mostly happens if under low load, low RPM, high gear but hitting the gas to accelerate.

 

Has anybody else had problems with PCM flash recently? I tried twice to flash the latest tune but it couldn’t get past the “identification” step either time. Yes I’m flashing the correct tune/ECU ID, yes I have a dongle (giggity), no I haven’t done anything different than the last time

 

Submit a ticket because Mat needs to hear positive comments as well. If he only receives negative comments the things you like might get changed due to a vocal minority. I previously used a Pedal Commander with more aggressive tip-in, so I am happy with this currently beta tune as well. In the winter, I will just switch back to a base tune if roads are icy.

 

@Ruggybuggy and I have/had this. The other day I got locked into the 21150 test file (no longer available, has been replaced by another test map). Nothing I tried worked until Ruggy told me about another time this had happened to him. I had to disconnect my battery and touch the terminals together for a couple minutes to discharge all capacitors and then reconnect, clear DTCs and then was able to flash out.

 

In my experience it's pretty typical though Mat has found ways to address the stumble previously through tuning. My truck does this stock to be clear so it is not something caused by the tune - perhaps its more noticeable b/c of the other changes in power that make you "feel" the momentary feeling of losing power but it still does it stock.

For example, I can be on the stock calibration, climbing a mountain pass doing 65. Zero misfires, plenty of power to get up and over the mountain, but every few seconds I could feel an ever-so-slight bump feeling, and at the same time see my torque converter value flipping between locked and unlocked. No knock/detonation/misfires... just transmission / TC weirdness. Now that said, I've also run previous (very old and now obsolete) versions of the tune where keeping the TC locked TOO much actually makes it hard to climb. It's almost like the truck is designed to slip to prevent lugging or bogging under load but I'm no engineer nor do I claim to be an expert, but that seems to make logical sense to my lay-brain
