Now that my free oil changes are over and I have to pay for them I'm wondering who does a good job for a good price. Dealers in Ft Collins and Greeley seem to be around $85 which seems really expensive or is that the going rate for 6 quarts of synthetic and a filter?

    Your garage.

Sorry, someone was going to say it, might as well be me. :D Now granted, maybe you don't have one or live somewhere with those stupid 'no vehicle work' policies, in which case maybe you befriend someone with space to do it in. You also have a third gen which is a bit more of a pain in the ass to do than previous gens.

Almost everyone is going to tell you to avoid Jiffy like the plague, particularly with a cartridge filter, even if they are half what a dealership charges. For the oil (synthetic) and filter and crush washer, you're at around $35 depending on what you buy. Then you have dealer labor and the other stuff they do beyond just the oil change.

Never had mine done at the dealer, so... do they even offer synthetic or do they just do dino? Or maybe if you bring your own they'll just use that? Might vary dealer to dealer but maybe one of the techs on here would chime in. Speaking of which you're better off posting in the stickied BS thread, as that's all a lot of people follow.

^^^^ This. And as mentioned never use Grease Monkey or Jiffy Lube - unless you want to be shorted on how much oil they put in (usually a qt short) and have a mess to cleanup along with a cross threaded oil pan plug and oil filter canister!

I do mine myself - takes about 30 minutes. I added a FuMoto valve and got the special filter canister wrench (from the dealer). Makes short work of the job and leaves no mess. About $35 to do a full filter/fluid change and I never have to worry about it being done right the first time. Peace of mind does not have to cost an arm and leg.

I would argue that it’s more difficult to change the oil filter on the 1st gens

Ya the first gens are impossible to not spill oil everywhere when taking off the filter. Skid plate or not it’s a pain. But I still do it and not have someone else do it just cause I don’t trust dealers

I really agree with all the others. Do it yourself, if at all possible. I picked up a TRD skid plate, for the primary reason of oil changes...it has an access panel for the oil filter.

Some fast change place that obviously has high school aged kids doing the work. That way you already know that the work was substandard.

If I did everything I could myself I'd have no time to do things I want to do. I could tie my own flies for fishing, I could raise my own chickens for eggs, I could paint my own house, I could grow my own wheat, and I could change my own oil.

But let's assume for the moment that I asked because for whatever reason I don't want to do it myself. To be honest, I don't really want to spend my time on it nor do I have any tools for that or an easy way to dispose of the old oil. I know all those issues have solutions, but as I said, I'm not interested in doing it myself.

So, that said, is there any place around that does do good work? I don't need to know that jiffy lube does poor work, but any recommendation on a shop that does good work and reasonable would be appreciated. Thanks.

Just FYI for anyone in NoCo, Ehrlich in Greeley just started a new service plan. $180 for 3 synthetic oil changes and 6 tire rotations. Even ignoring the tire rotations that's just $60 / oil change. Even you DIYers might find that worth it since they also inspect, check and fill other fluids and recycle the oil. I drop it off on my way to work and pick up later so I'm also not using any of my free time for this. Totally worth it to me.

Good that you found a place and a price that's worth it for you. Greeley is at best an hour and a half, sixty mile round trip from Fort Collins. At that point I'd pay the $25 more to have it done in town here. If you work or live over there, great, something to consider. Didn't really have enough info in your original post to know whether or not you needed to be told that quicklube places weren't worth considering, just that you'd been going to a dealer and considered that price high and quicklube places are generally the low price point. Sometimes there are actually quicklube places that do a good job, or people are ok with using those (it's worth it to them). Just letting you know there aren't any around here. Oh, and by the way, many autoparts places take used oil - there's a number of places around here depending on where you're actually at.

I work in Greeley so super convenient to drop off on my way to work, take their shuttle to work and then they pick me when done.

Ehrlich's is good. Christian Brothers is also a good place to go. They do good by the veterans in our community so I try and help them out when possible but not sure of their oil change prices. Joe's Auto khair in Evan's was also recommended to me by a couple locals as well that swear by his service.

That's all I got for Greeley Jim.

Rocky Mountain Automotive in FoCo is great. Joe is honest and does great work for anything you may need, but good prices for oil changes and regular maintenance as well.

Big-O in Greeley is GTG and they often have coupons online
