Hi guys, been having trouble finding the exact answer to my issue... getting bits and pieces here and there but no real definitive answer. So --
    2004 V6
My truck starts up fine, runs fine when its cold, drives great. The problem arises after the engine is warm, if im stopped in drive, it idles rough. Its been doing this for a little bit. Just yesterday I replaced my tank with a good used one, with the fuel pump in it and everything from a tacoma that was totaled, had about 100k miles. The codes I am getting are p0171, p0136, p1133. When i am sitting at idle i can see the black smoke and its definitely fuel, smells very rich, but I'm getting a lean code? Is the o2 sensor causing the engine to think its running lean and then dumping more fuel? I've had an o2 sensor code for a little bit now prior to this and it ran fine without issue. Was planning on replacing it but wasnt in a hurry because it wasnt causing me any issues. If anyone can give me insight it would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Replace the faulty 02 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 using a denso sensor. Clean the MAF. I would use live sensor feed or at least freeze frame before throwing parts at it. P0171 check/clean MAF sensor. check for vac leaks downstream of MAF, PCV line or PCV valve. Dirty fuel filter or exhaust leak before 02 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 (upstream) P0136 Bad 02 sensor/ replace. P01133 indictes Air Fuel sensor prior up to 2000 year models P0133 sensor 1 bank 1 for 2004. Check your air filter too.

I have seen exhaust leak after the manifold before the CAT throw these codes before as well as P0133 and P1133 depending on model year and engine thats why i say check live feed or at least freeze fame before throwing parts at it because it may be 3 bolt and an exhaust gasket, Have someone hold the tailpipe shut while you are under the running engine. If its leaking you should hear it or feel it usung a paper towel.

Replaced the MAF and the front o2 sensor. The rear o2 will have to wait for now because the studs are too rusty at this point and i’m going to have to weld a new flange onto the exhaust. Otherwise, it seems the problem is fixed for now. running smooth, idling smooth, no CEL and no black smoke from the exhaust.
