I’ve currently got @MESO ’s map lights and puddle lights on my truck. Installed the puddle lights 2 weeks ago, and just recently started having issues with the “dome 7.5a” fuse. I’ll disconnect the battery, replace the fuse, and as soon as the maps/puddle lights trigger, the fuse blows again.

When installing the puddles I was diligent about wrapping wires and being careful with harnesses so I couldn’t imagine any exposed wires but who knows. And again, it was fine for over 20+ engine starts.

    Help?

You have a short. Take it all apart and look for it. Something may have worked itself loose after driving/vibrations. It should be easily apparent once you find it so that's the good news.

Sounds like a short in the puddle light wiring. What part of Oregon are you in? Perhaps I can help. PM me if you’re near to Portland.

Could a disconnected harness cause this or should I be searching for a rogue wire?

    Thanks for the tip

Slim chances its a disconnected harness if the end is still properly attached. I'd look for something loose- it may not even be fully free-swinging either. A loose terminal inside a connector could be the culprit as well. You'll have some wire jigglin' to do. (technical term).

Looks like I’ll be spending the weekend drinking beer and jigglin my wires. Thanks again for the help

Go to the store and buy plenty of extra fuses. Or better yet, if you have a spare 12 volt lamp, solder the leads across a burned fuse. Every time you mess with something, check to see if the ground fault has gone away. This will tell you where yo need to focus your investigation. You may have to access the new harness, disconnect them one at a time, and check the fuse.

12 volt lamp method works best if you have the ability to rig one up. When you plug it into the fuse holder, the bulb will be lit as long as there is a short. The bulb will go out when the short is gone.
