I'm a new member and looking at buying our first Tacoma. My daughter will be 16 in March and she is dying to get one. We are looking at years 2007 and newer looking to spend no more than $15k. We'd like a 2wd prerunner sport short bed 4 door. Any suggestions for years to stay away from, what to look for and also what mileage is safe to purchase one at? This will be her primary vehicle so I want a reliable truck that I can trust she wont have any issues. I've been looking at CL, offer up etc.... just don't really know what's good and what's not. Any help or advice would be appreciated, thank you!

    Welcome!

Might want to check out the second gen forum. Things to look for in those years. Any recalls that may or may not have happened. Any new updates between the years.

    Good luck!

My advice would be to start looking in your cost rang.
Then post pics or links ask a few questions like I like this one but what about the miles, or something like that and it will be easier for people to give advice on the vehicle.

Good luck! Welcome to Taco World

    Welcome.

I havent seen a hard mileage cutoff that I absolutely would stay away from - I have seen some absolute gems with almost 200k on the clock, and Ive seen some horror stories with less than 100k. That said, with your budget try to keep it under 150 kilomiles and have a good mechanic picked out well before shopping, to give the truck a thorough inspection.

The major thing to watch for - be sure to crawl under the truck and have a good look at the frame. Heavy, flaking rust should be an absolute no-go for you.

Patience is your friend. I know how impatient 16 year olds can be, but the search for the elusive worthy used Taco for the right price can take a little time.

I'm looking primarily in SoCal so I'm hoping rust wont be an issue. Appreciate the advice!
