It may not be a bad thing depending on how you look at it. Technically isn't it a beneficial survival adaptation that simply doesn't work with today's diet and food types?

Do you have any blister prevention advice?

I always get blisters on my outer big toes. Always have. I’ve changed shoe sizes, socks, and used antichaffe stuff.
I just accept this is a reality. I’m thinking if getting KT tape to just tape the sides of my feet but wondering if you have any magical ideas.

As my mileage is going up I remember half my toenails were always black as a runner.

I had the same issues until I switched to forefoot striking, stopped running for time, and bought minimalist shoes. In general, blisters are a moisture and friction problem (not the fun kind). So more tape, more padding, thicker socks, etc - anything that is going to keep your feet crammed together and wet is going to result in blisters. I'd suggest shoes with a wider toe box, not a bigger size, and socks made from natural wicking fibers like wool. Next, I would pre-lube my feet with something like body glide. And if that still didnt work, I would over haul my running stride until I got it right, which is what I ended up doing. If you are running for time, you maybe cramming your feet into the front of your shoes when you strike with more power, hence your problem - get a more rigid upper to keep your foot in place, and don't by shy about tightening down the midfoot when lacing up. My freedom isos have a sock-like stretchy upper that keeps my feet where I want them. Note that simply buying larger sizes is going to increase the volume in your mid foot as well as in the toe box, making it harder to get a proper fit.

Once you have blisters, burn gel is a nice way to reduce pain. These often contain mild lidocaine, so finishing your run is manageable.

My runners (have done four runs over 30 in them, no hot spots or blisters) and socks:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07S88G8B8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Another shameless plug for minimalist shoes is that your feet have to fight supportive shoes, which causes points of pressure. Having nothing but a thin layer of soft foam -no arch support, dual-density junk, or massive heal rises - allows your feet to move freely inline with your unique bio-mechanics. Basically, any shoe advertising "support" or "control" is gonna cause blisters for some folks.

Yes, in principle. His setup is a porcelain pour-over, so I imagine he also puts a coffee filter inside it when he is ready pour because he doesn't have a mesh strainer.

More or less the same. You take the v60 and put a paper filter in it, rinse the filter with water, dump the water, put ground coffee in, pour water, let brew, enjoy.

Ya, it takes a while to do, but gahdamn if I don't have the best cup of coffee every day. My friend who just drinks regular pod bullshit coffee was over and made him some and he just goes "holy shit thats the best cup of coffee ive ever had"

Once you get your system down though its not bad. I heat my water up in an electric gooseneck kettle. While it's heating I weigh the beans out, get the cup, filter, etc out. Waters hot, I rinse/preheat the v60, and then start the grinder. Dump water, put coffee in, open phone app for my scale (I'm a coffee snob fuck off), get everything queue up and then brew. Brewing usually takes about 3-4 mins. It's something I enjoy doing every morning.

I am a pretty perfect forefoot striker. I’ve had many coaches comment in my stride.
I also over pronate but stay away from supportive shoes. When I fell for that crap back as a new runner I always had injuries. Knee pain or shin splints. I finally realized that when you let your body move how it needs to you are better off.

I have speed train days and longer run days. So not always running for time.

I would like to try more minimalist shoes but not sure how to do it. I broke my left foot and had surgery with hardware put in. I have arthritis in my big toe that rarely bothers me but I do notice when I wear my zero drop shoes for lifting. I can’t walk around in them too long without pain (more than an hour or so).
I don’t run in my orthotics but even if I got a pair for my running shoes (which I might) they have a standard drop to them so I feel that takes away from the minimalist point to them. But I’m also afraid to put orthotics in my running shoes because I run pain free without it and all it will do is change my running dynamics. I feel like if it ain’t broke...

I may try the Saucony Freedoms. I love their shoes.
I’ve never bought wide shoes before but I think thats wider in the forefoot not the box.

I also need new socks so I’ll try some of the wool.

I’ma go get me a third job so I can pay for all this running shit too lol

Big fan of the Sauconys for the small amount of running I do. I’m a pretty flatfoot runner, even as a bigger guy my feet and ankles never really hurt wearing them. Been doing pretty consistent 10min 1.5mile runs for my pt tests in them.

I wouldn't necessarily buy wide shoes. The point I'm trying to make is you want to be able to snug down your midfoot when necessary, and have lots of wiggle room in your toe box. "Wide" also means high volume all the way through the shoe and is not what you want. I should have said better fitting, and fitting to the specs I just descried. My bad.

A comment about the freedoms - these are the most cushioned and comfortable minimalist shoes I have ran it. They are also on the heavier side in this category though too. I can pound some concrete for awhile without pain, which is really nice. To be a "minimalist" show, which is slang for no support, you should be able to twist the shoes in a 180 degrees. like this:
    upload_2019-9-19_14-12-9.jpg

See how I can turn the heal over the upper? This is possible because there is nothing in the arch or heal to "stabilize" or "support" the shoe. Having said that, if you haven't ran in anything that truly lacks this kind of support, slow it way down your first few runs to mitigate injury risk. Your feet have to do all the work in these and thus you don't want to injure any unappreciated weaknesses in your feet.

    Good luck.
