Yeah don’t get me wrong I think both companies are suffering but for different reasons... nissan is suffering because their cars suck and I would never let a friend buy one lol.

Mazda makes good cars, not quite as good as Honda/toyota in my opinion but way better than nissan. I think they’re suffering just because they’re such a small company and can’t keep up with the massive dealer networks, R&D and marketing budgets of Toyota who seems to gobble up all their market share.

I don’t want Mazda to suffer so hope they’ll pull some tricks which they’ve proven they can, if their new skyactivx becomes a reality they might bring themselves back on licensing that tech alone. Not super familiar with it but think it’s like a camless free valve compression ignition system with some sort of ridiculous thermal efficiency.

I'm not sure if the US is a good fit for Mazda trucks...The market is already swimming in choices in the 'small' (1/2 ton truck segment, and all the nes import taxes and fees won't help either.
Maybe, if they go for bringing back the compact truck class, they might be able to get established before competition follows, but not sure if that would last long.

Just wouldn't be 'Merican if a we didn't have them F350's to haul our 70" flat screens home from Walmat!

If I understand it correctly, Renault owns Nissan and Mitsubishi so they are basically all under the same umbrella

It's hard to say long term since the 2.7 has only been out since 15 but it's been reliable so far. Someone on the F150 forum has 300,000 miles on one with no issues. Modern turbos are liquid and oil cooled and naturally move both after shutoff so they don't cook like old ones.

This motor will make towing so much more relaxing. The Ecoboost tow so effortlessly. Wish Toyota would do the same.

Nissan has been under Renault’s thumb for 20 years. Carlos Ghosn, at the time head of Renault, picked up struggling Nissan for cheap and formed this uneven “alliance” by which Renault owns 43% of Nissan, with voting rights, but Nissan only owns 15% of Renault, with NO voting rights.

Mr Ghosn was arrested in Japan last November under corruption charges. Mr Ghosn claims his arrest was a coup because he was planning to fully merge Nissan with Renault.

I was a supplier for the Renault-Nissan Alliance and saw the internal dynamics up close: in typical French manner, Renault would state forcefully what it wanted; in typical Japanese fashion Nissan would keep quiet. Renault would take Nissan’s silence as agreement and off it went. Multiply this times 20 years, and add the fact that Nissan brought the bulk of the profits, and it was only a matter of time for Nissan to blow up —taking Renault by surprise.

Nissan spent the last 10 years chasing market share, mostly through heavy discounting, giving Nissan the dubious distinction of having some of the fastest depreciating vehicles on the market (e.g., LEAF, Rogue). Nissan’s profitability is now down to zero. Meanwhile, Renault still wants to complete the merger.

Mr. Saikawa, who replaced Mr Ghosn as Nissan CEO and opposed merging with Renault, was forced out earlier this week. Nissan is actively looking for a replacement. My guess is Renault must be trying as we speak to position a candidate who is open to merge.

    More to come.

    Off topic rant
Single worst decision I ever made was selling my '01 gsr and getting a 06 Maxima. Nissan has left a very bad taste in my mouth and will never get another penny from me.
That car practically fell apart in 60k miles.

It doesn’t look good at all for Nissan.

    Man, that’s a clean Integra!

My neighbors have a '15 2.7. They're around 65k on it. It sometimes puffs a bit of blue smoke at startup, but otherwise seems solid. They've had some issues out of the truck...mostly electrical...gauges and TPMS. But as far as I know, the drive train has been good

I’m biased to Ford and I don’t even know why I just am :notsure: all the talk you ever hear is the turbos, the turbos, good luck with the turbos and so on... when in reality those are about the least likely items on a modern F150 or Superduty diesel to fail, it’s just simply a fact. These ain’t ya pappies turbos...times a changed.

when you have to spend 40+ K dollars, the item better last a long time. It better be covered if it breaks, reliability is the highest priority for me.
I have had and worn out several fords, I just wasnt happy with my 2017 lariat. Came back to toyota soon as I could. I feel very confident I can take
this truck 250K with normal maintance no problem. I actuall have fun again driving it, oh look a mud puddle or sand dune, you can not do that in a lariat 4x4.
If you plan on keeping it long.
I belive the GM and Fords mid size are just copy cats, ford turbo charged 4 cyc how long will that last. ? We are all taco folks here, we know we own quality.

2018? yeah you might be hard pressed to find any flaws after 1 year and 4k miles.

That’s impressive though. The taco 3.5 TQ/HP is about 0.95. The 4.0 you reference is 1.4, which is a huge drivability difference.
