I've decided I want a new Tacoma to replace my 07 Ridgeline (165k on that beast). I'm a construction manager, spending a few days a week onsite (driving gravel/dirt access roads to my sites), aside from that it's interstate miles from the office to the jobs or a 18 mile commute from home to office. I'm not a true "off road" adventurer, just an average guy who does home repairs and likes a nice vehicle. I test drove a TRD Sport yesterday and really liked what it had to offer, but the more I watch videos and read, perhaps the OR is a better option ?

My local dealer (whom we leased a Highlander XLE from two months ago) has a decent Tacoma selection 12 Sports, 10 Off Roads and is willing to find me the color/package I want. Leaning towards the Silver Sky.

So...do I opt for the OR for the ability to traverse a bumpy, gravel site road with ease or will the Sport do just the same ? I never got stuck in the Ridgeline, but there where a few times the larger rock came close to the underside of the truck. Anyone have problems with the lower air dam on the Sport hitting terrain ?

Is the ride comfort that much different between the two TRD options ?

    Thanks in advance gang.

Remember its clearance time, they will have the same offers when the 2020's are here and they will be under further pressure to sell. Don't fall into pressure tactics from them, they are the ones who are in the hurry.

Buy the offroad, they ride nicer on gravel roads.

If you want apple car play and power seats, wait for 2020 models.

You get more for your money with the Off road.
That being said, I opted for the Sport because I liked the ride better.
Also, the air dam is easily removable if you need to.

Give me a break;), I had company cars for years at my prior job...never needed/wanted a truck. The Ridgeline was a quick purchase at a killer price, it served it's purpose for 3 years now. I'm well into my 50s, so the wild part of me is long gone, you got me there.

I bought the sport and I'm very happy with it but... sometimes I feel I made the wrong decision. Should have bought the offroad. I just like the extra features the offroad has.

I stopped reading after Ridgeline too.
    clearly all over the place.
also this is probably the most discussed topic on here after "what size tires can I fit on my stock whatever"
use the search function in the top right corner and read everyones opinions.
and remember they are just opinions from people who likely have no idea what they are talking about.

you're really missing that crawl control huh. probably would use that daily.
    same thing about the locker.
said it before, all that stuff is about as useful as a hood scoop for 99% of OR owners.

I think a Sport would suffice. It’s my understanding you can get a better deal on them vs an off road.

Can I sign something that bans you from getting a Taco after a ridgeline???? Jk lol

Test drive both on and off road and make your decision, can’t go wrong with sport or OR! I got the sport because my main driving is on road and love the looks of sport, welcome and good luck
