As many other posters had said, test drive both and get which one you like. I wasn’t a fan of the stiffer sport suspension, so I went with an OR. Not to mention, silver looks awesome with the black fender flares.

Its 11 bolts holding the air dam on. Using a 10mm socket takes 2 minutes to remove.

The sport is a firm suspension (highway setup) the off-road is a softer suspension (absorbs Off Road bumps)

I saved $1,000s on a sport vs off road. If it’s the same price get the off road. If they will come down $4k on a sport take that one.

The sport has the fake hood scoop. That alone would keep me away from one.

Just get an SR5 and save your money. Sounds like you'll never need the locker and other stuff.

But between the two, buy the Off Road. Or a Ranger, or Colorado. My Tacoma sucks.

Having recently retired from 40 years in commercial construction I vote for the Off Road.

My opinion? Treat yourself to the Pro model.

Shoot for a $5.5k discount and enjoy the sunroof, leather, heated seats, amazing resale value and plush, Raptor like ride on the street.

Take whatever is cheaper and has the options you want. For your uses it won’t really matter as both are quite capable.

I say get whatever is cheaper and upgrade the parts you don’t like. Most everyone ends up with some kind of upgraded suspension and if you’re not off-roading the truck there is no need to get an OR other than for the looks.

I have an SR crew cab and it’s my daily driver. I’ve added take off factory fog lights, OR model rims and tires, and factory OR Bilstein suspension. I’ve taken it on the beach and I never even spun a tire, the Auto-LSD worked well for me. If I every want more traction I’ll add an aftermarket e-locker to the rear.

A lot of the OR owners bash the Sport and limited . The funny thing is I bet most of the 3gen OR owners dont go anywhere a 2 wheel drive couldn't go . I get out there sometimes and the OR guys trailer their beaters in and beat the hell out of them . People I know cant afford 40K truck to trash . But the kids in here say OR , locker , crawl and all they do is wash and wax it and add aftermarket stuff . Sr all the way to Pro all good , buy what you want .

Test drive both. In the end it’s personal preference.

Sport tuned suspension, limited slip differential, color match painted fender flares and hood scoop

    Or

Off road suspension, locking rear differential, unpainted plastic fender flares and crawl control

I went Sport. Primary due to suspension, but admittedly I hate the look of the plastic flares on a black truck.

I had a 2nd gen DCSB for 12 years. The main difference between the OR and Sport for mostly on road travel, is the sway bar stiffness. I traded up to the OR DCLB last year and could not be more pleased. I frequently longed for a tad more space in the bed with the old truck. The ride in the current rig is very comfortable and the longer wheelbase is a contributing factor. Get what you want, but the LB has some benefit beyond just increased cargo capacity. I might also add that my usage has changed now and I no longer require the smaller turning radius for negotiating trails in the woods. I also like the non scoop hood better than the sport hood from drivers perspective. Aesthetically...I don't care that much either way.

Oh, I almost forgot, for on road usage, the limited slip on the Sport was a far better choice in the 2nd gen and I preferred it to the Elocker and traction controlled open diff of the offroad in almost every situation. Again, my truck adventures have changed now and that isn't as big of a factor.

I bought a Sport for the Manual, if the Off-road was available in Manual in Canada other than the Access Cab then I would have had a lot tougher decision. Ultimately both will work for your needs and are quite capable. Good luck in you decision.

Both models have the same computer simulated Limited Slip Diff, the Locker on the OR is in addition to that.

That's basically TW in general. If you dont have an Off-road model, it's trash tier. If you bought a pro model, you've wasted so much money seems to be the common answer.

If you're into MTs and want an ACLB, then Sport. If you're getting an AT or want a DC MT, then OR.

    Done . . .
