    Thanks, I couldn’t imagine life without it now. I got it used from a shop for a pretty good price. It’s only a 7000lb lift, it struggles with bigger 3/4 ton trucks

    I don't think that was it, because they offered double cabs with manual transmissions on the 2nd gens starting in 2005. I think they probably figured double cabs = buyers with families, and usually people carting around kids and what not don't have manual transmissions. That's completely a guess on my part though.
