I'm planning to change the transmission oil on my 08 4.0 6 speed manual. I believe 75W-90 is the recommended viscosity. I recently bought Mobil 1 75W-90 LS gear oil for the transfer case, and diffs and bought enough to do the tranny as well. The oil says is has a limited slip friction modifier added to the oil. Is this still ok to be used in the transmission, or should I go with something else?

RedLine MT90 is what you seek. Lots of guys run it in their manuals. I've used it in my FJ for 12 years. Now at 232K.

I'm pretty sure you do not want limited slip modifier in your MT.

I have redline in my nissan, it shifts great. The first time i changed it i used some oil that supposedly met the spec and it was awful.

The M1 75W90LS is GL-4 and GL-5 rated and is probably fine. I debated on using that in my 5spd as i had several quarts of it in the stash,
but I went with the RedLine MT90 for ease of mind.

    No issues so far.

    Good Luck with it.

If the transmission is not spec'd for LS fluid, I would not use it. I don't think it's worth the potential problems, which could be serious. So just spend the extra $25 and get the right product. You will eventually use the extra LS fluid for its intended application. I was told I can use LS fluid in my open differential but I don't think that means it's OK for all gearboxes.

Thanks for all the input, I ordered Redline MT-90.
