Heads Up. Item is patented by Mountain Hatch, LLC. Might want to be aware.

I highly recommend Mountain Hatch. Heard about them from 3rd gen outlanders. Purchased mine at the right time awhile ago. They had the 2nd gen (black color only) on a big sale plus they gave me an additional military discount. I don’t kill my knees any more. Plus it is very usable for so many different things.

It's official. I'm a fan of POR-15. :bananadance::bananadance::bananadance: Tested out the kit below on my LCAs since my skids are off. Man what a difference!

Does this kit have something for UV protection? I’ve heard that POR15 breaks down in direct sunlight.

Yes, POR 15 does sell a topcoat for UV protection. Don't see where the underside (frame, etc) would need it, unless it's on it's roof most of the time. Good stuff, but $$$$$!

My tailgate has a deep rust line on top from my old LEER topper. Also was starting to rust from the inside out on the bottom. I grinded down all the rust as best as I could, then sprayed a rust reformer, then used Rustoleum Truck Bed Liner.

It's my first time using the product and I have to say this stuff is awesome. It sprays really smooth and has a nice professional finish to the touch.20180703_155724.jpg 20190921_142535_HDR.jpg 20190921_151919_HDR.jpg 20190921_162816-1.jpg 20190922_131049~2.jpg 20190922_131105_HDR~2.jpg

\I like that fix. At first I thought you were going to try to color match it with no blending, but I like what you did there.

My original plan was remove the rust and repaint the entire tailgate but I didn't think it was worth buying all the materials/time because of the extent of the rust forming in behind the bottom. I figured this way I have about $15 invested and this should also slow down the rust while hiding it pretty good.

If it gets worse, I'll buy an aftermarket tailgate.
Appreciate it! With $15 invested and an afternoon of work, I'm definitely happy with it, plus the extra protection.
These are the 2 products I used. Nothing fancy and about $15 all in. I'm terms of sanding/grinding, I used a Dremel multi-max with 80 grit and a Dremel rotary afterwards with smaller bits for the deep spots.

Go easy with loads up there. I had the same setup with three Necky 13' Kayaks. A few bumps on the road and the roof was dented under the rear towers. Replaced it all with mounts to the factory hard points. If you're only loading a couple of bikes up there you should be OK.

Trial fit of the DIY bed slide before finishing with roll-on bed liner. Also need to sort out the latch mechanism so it stays put where I slide it to - and not fall out on the ground.

I don't expect to carry heavy stuff - model airplanes, kites, camp chairs - and use it for a launch/recovery platform for camera drones.

Skate wheel bearings and furniture sliders in a aluminum channel.

Drilled and set a bunch of T-nuts in the underside, before laying up the fiberglass. These show through on a 1'x1' grid so I can move tie down hardware around for various loads.
