I’m about to update the radiator for my 99 5VZ with the Champion made for the 4 cylinder. (Trying to clear the bottom crossmember for ground clearance). I’ve got a manual trans. Unfortunately, most after market rads will have the bottom tank for ATF. Since I don’t need this part of the radiator, I’m trying to figure a way to make use of it. I’m thinking about 2 options.

    1. Plumb some lines from the oil cooler location and delete the hockey puck.

    2. Try to plumb lines from the 5 speed trans with some sort of external pump.

Has anyone heard of this or other alternative uses for the trans cooler tank of a radiator?

I go wheeling a few weekends a month so I’m trying to work out some creative ways to keep my temps down in the Texas heat.

Custom built aluminum radiators can be ordered with or without a trans cooler . If your aftermarket aluminum radiator only is available with the factory cooler just block it off with pipe plugs

If you're thinking of using it for a gear oil cooler it won't work . That cooler won't flow the heavier weight oil without issues . You would actually need a electric pump inline to move the gear oil out of the manual transmission

I wouldn't bother with the expense of a manual trans cooler. The oil cooler just get a sandwich plate and add some lines from that to where the trans cooler is. I'd just Daisy chain it with the stock one. If you want to delete the stock one you'd have to buy all the non to package stuff to do so.

Use the transmission cooler for your power steering
