I started off by putting KM3 255/85r16s on my 3rg gen. I read all the skinny articles through and through, and everyone promised no rubbing, so I pulled the trigger and was very happy. Then I ordered Fox 2.5s w/res and Icon leafs/ucas and theyre going on this Saturday. To make more room for everything, I decided to switch wheels to something with 4.5" backspace. I fell in love with these Method 701s so I read all the posts about them and ordered them over Labor Day during the Method sale. The 701s don't rub with stock tires. The skinny km3s don't rub with stock wheels. But with their powers combined, I have rub.

You can see in the pic there is very little room front and back. It doesn't seem to hit cab mount, only plastic so I think some caster after ucas go on will help (based on my research, not actual experience). Question is how much can I cut on the front? Has anyone cut their actual bumper to make more space (Like the ZR2) ? I plan to purchase an ARB when I leave Hawaii (shipping is ) but for now I need an interim solution.

Disclaimer: I've never modded anything, this is my first Tacoma, and my first Forum thread ever, anywhere. So I probably have a lot of questions and no idea what I'm talking about.

Just what I needed! Looks like I will be getting some 265/75/16s until I can afford a lift. Tire/wheel combo looks awesome. Give an update after the lift please !

Just installed 701’s w/Cooper st maxx 255/80/17 on stock suspension. There definitely is some rubbing at full turn or hitting my steep driveway, but nothing too major.

The 17 and 16 have different dimensions that may be keeping yours from rubbing as badly or maybe I'm overstating how bad it is, but seriously when my front end compresses it yells at me haha.

    Well, it did.

So quick update, since the suspension install, no rub. I took it in for alignment at goodyear and they wouldn't let me choose my caster. I went in with caster at about 3.5 and at the time, had lots of space from cab mount. After alignment, caster was set to 2.5 and it's very close again. Now I'm going to go in and change the caster forward more myself and I'll post how it goes.

UPDATE: Haven't messed with alignment myself yet because people keep telling me not to or it'll mess up camber. Still researching. BUT today I hopped a steep curb to get onto a dirt parking space and there was no rub sound. Maybe because the tires were wet (so lubed). More to come.
