Went up one size tire and that caused passengers side clearance to be different than drivers.

    cant make this shit up.

    Cliff notes:
April bought 4Runner pro rims, because 17 like my sport, yota OEM should be minor issues and lots of folks have them on their tacos
Labor Day, got new tires went from 265/65/17 to 265/70/17, should only be an inch more needed in the wheel wells, in fact 1/2 inch between tire and each side of the wheel well.

Got tires installed last week, instantly find rubbing on Passenger side mud flap, can not get drivers side to rub. Remove mud flap, measure and notice there on drivers side is 2 and 1/2 inches between tire and rear of wheel well. Passenger side is only 1 and 1/2 inches. I try to talk to a service advisor at Toyota, nope need an appointment. Thanks for helping a loyal customer (this is the 3rd truck I bought from them). Then I remember the front passenger side was totaled, maybe that could be the problem. I also remember that they tried to give the truck back to me and I needed to promptly return it and the figured out the wheel barring need to be replaced. So I go to the body shop, they look at it, try to pass blame to me, the say let’s look at the alignment specs. As we are walking into the office, the guy says, “watch, your file will be the one we forgot to put the alignment paperwork in.” Holy fuck, it’s like he knew this was going to be an issue, they can’t find the paperwork showing I got the alignment they charged the insurance company for. But he agrees there is an issue and they will pay for my alignment.

Today, truck goes in for service plus alignment. Needs oil change, told needs air and cabin filter replacement, spark plugs and a fuel system treatment. When told about the cost of plugs, I bitched and compliance that I should have to pay that ever 30k miles. But do it if it needs. I refuse the fuel treatment and tell them that’s just a way to suck money from the customer.

Get the text, please call us. I call, and am told the plugs are every 120k so, new set is on them, sweet works for me. However, I now need to service my differentials at a cost of 175 (or something like that), I agree at first, but called back after I got off the phone to cancel.

Now the almost best part. There is nothing wrong with your truck, what I am seeing as the difference in clearance between drivers and passenger side is because of the tires. Needless to say, I question this and am told it’s because of the tires and they are not the right size. My response is, yes the tires are 1 inch larger, but there is still about and inch difference in clearance on each side. Again, I get it’s the tires. I ask if they are not round and hang up. I was at work, which is in a school so I don’t have time to be treated like I am dumb.

So go to pick up the truck, service advisor tells me there is no difference. I say, the body shop noticed it as well. Well there is no difference I am told, and those tires don’t fit the truck. I say bullshit, did you make adjustments with the alignment, and am told yes. Ahh, so maybe it’s fixed now and it isn’t the tires. Well those aren’t the right tires and bla bla...

As we are reviewing the paperwork, he says frame is ok. I ask about the coating that yota puts on, so if the frame does go bad it’s covered. He tells me something about as long as he says it’s good, I’ll be covered. But he notice that I spray something on it to protect it. I say, ya it’s been fluid filmed a few times.

Now the best part. He says it’s doing a good job and I should stop. I was like what, he said if I stop the fram can rust out and get replaced. Talked about how getting a new frame is a good thing. After trying to figure out why he would say that, I decide to go back to the issue at hand, my bad tires. I ask if I put the factory crap back on, will I still same issue, he keeps telling me there is no difference both sides are the same, and I should just take off the drivers side mud flap and drive it.

I go out in the lot, remove my mud flap, go back in borrow a tape measure. Guess what, the adjustments did change it, it’s now only an 1/2 inch difference. So it’s clear to me that something was wrong. I ask the service advisor to come and see the measurements and get, the tech showed me already, they are the same.

So I ask for the tech that worked on my truck, and while waiting I measured 2s other tacos. Guess what 3 inches between the tires and rear of the wheel well on both front tires. And mine are 2.5 and 2. 2.5 makes sense as the tires ar and inch bigger total, 1/2 inch each side.

So the question is what do I do now? Contact my insurance company explain the situation and say I don’t have faith in the repairs? Contact Yota corporate and tell them? Or just shut to fuck up and understand that’s the tires fault?

Take it to an alignment shop and see what their numbers are so that you will have some kind of written proof if its off . Measure center of front wheel to center of back wheel too .

If it was in a accident, the insurance should be called as the repair should go through them... I believe most insurance companies warranty most the of work for life of the vehicle (unless you sell)

Did he measure if each side was off before the new tires? Looks like new tires after body work and they’re blaming the tires?

Don't think so, as there didn't seem to be a issue (no noise) for him to check.

The collision center also warranties work for lifetime. But, ya thinking insurance company needs to be notified, at the very least to report they were charged for work that was not done originally.

Maybe the difference was there before, but couldn't notice.

now the new tires make it noticeable?
