Door locks

Has anyone replaced the door locks on a first gen with power locks?

 

I am sure a lot of people on here have replaced them. Are you asking anything specific about the job? It's gonna be pretty simple with basic hand tools. You will have to mostly disassemble the door.

 

Do you have manual locks and you want to convert to power?

 

I have power locks now. How will new locks work with the old fob? Am I even asking the right question? The drivers side lock won't unlock with the remote and is very sticky even with the key.

 

Not sure this is the route you want to go but it’s pretty expensive. I’d take it apart and see if it’s something you can fix yourself. My 2nd option would be is to call a local pick and pull and see what they would charge you. There is an online pick and pull exclusive to Toyota’s in Northern Cali. They’re fairly priced.

I need to replace my rear left door lock mechanism. I spent some time a couple weeks ago pulling the lock out and it was a pain in the ____. I still haven't ordered the new part.

OP, it may help us both out if someone has a write up for this process and a source for a decently priced part.

 

The lock actuator is an expensive part. Better to properly diagnose the issue before diving that far in. Do you get a grinding noise when locking with the fob/remote? Does lubricating the keyhole improve the stickiness?

Pain in the ass getting all the rods on the actuator disconnected and reconnected, but otherwise straightforward. You might also consider getting some plastic trim removal tools and replacement plastic clips for when you remove the door card. You'll be less likely to break the clips if you use the tool.
