    Currently running Goodyear DuraTracs with "ghetto" wheels
    I checked and discovered Permatex offers an RTV sealant specifically for differentials and gearboxes. Seems the friction modifiers used in gear oil can cause leaks in certain sealants, reviews are very good on this sealant/gasket maker:

    Isn't there some orange shit that Toyota sells that's supposedly the bee's knees? FIPG for form in place gasket, or something along those lines.

    If and when my rear differential starts weeping I will reseal it myself. Not that hard to do, and I can take my sweet time and perform quality work unlike some dealerships.

    Yeah dealer service departments are a crap shoot at best. Never know who is working on your truck. There are good techs and bad techs.

    I've used and recommended on TW this product for years and it is the best.
    I have no idea why Toyota is not using something like this.

    According to the doc you provided, the dealer mechanic is replacing the gasket but not using a gasket sealer in addition. This is a mistake imo. I used gasket sealers if using gaskets (except head gaskets).

    I've used most of these at one time or another if using gaskets:

    The next mechanic will have fun cleaning off that gasket used without a gasket sealant.

    Not to be confused with gasket makers which replace OEM gaskets (except head gaskets). In alot of applications the gasket makers outperform OEM gaskets:
